I am a seasoned psychotherapist with many years of experience working with a diverse clientele. I believe that growth occurs in therapy not just from insight, but from the willingness to tolerate the discomfort of the unknown and experiment with new ways of being in and out of sessions. I strive to be an engaged and active partner in this work. I also do executive coaching for people in tech, finance and media-related fields. Although psychological factors are never entirely left out of this work, the focus is on optimizing professional goals.

We fear being vulnerable. We run from difficult feelings. We seek approval of others. We feel ashamed of our emotional baggage. Worst part is, we often try to hide these under our mask because of shame, fear, and anxiety. But hiding in shame only makes us feel worse about ourselves with isolation, emptiness, and a sense of self-hatred. In my practice, I support my clients to feel accepted, validated with no judgement. To promote healing and growth, I sit through difficult emotions until self-acceptance and self-compassion is communicated and received in a safe space.

My clients come to therapy with a desire to better understand themselves, their patterns, and the implicit beliefs they hold about themselves and the world. They are deep thinkers and feelers with a great appreciation for humor as part of the therapeutic process. They are often striving to become (and befriend) the best version of themselves. Together, we balance insights and perspectives with tools that guide transformation and growth.

My goal is for my patients to find relief from their pain and gain a better understanding of who they are. Examining perceptions and patterns can help people to understand what is not working in their lives and can lead to sustainable change. Therapy offers the opportunity to resolve relationship issues, manage chronic anxiety and depression, work through trauma, sort out painful experiences like divorce and infertility, and examine questions of identity and fulfillment. It is essential that the patient feel their therapist truly understands them. I am happy to help you find the right therapist, whether me or someone else.

My approach to therapy is holistic as my interest goes far beyond psychological issues. I want to understand, for example, the roles of the mind, the body, and the environment in causation of client’s problems. I look at all aspects of their lives in order to bring about permanent resolutions to their problems.

I work with individuals, couples, and families who are trying to cope with their own or a loved one's chemical or behavioral addiction, relationship challenges, work issues, or life decisions. I also see people who aren’t enduring any of those concerns, but who want to speak on a regular basis to address small issues before they become big ones. My style is conversational, direct, and investigative. I listen carefully both to what is said and for what is omitted, ask questions until we agree that I understand your perspective, and help guide you to long-term solutions. For therapists: I am available for supervision.

Clients often come in crisis and their wish is to be heard and understood so they can deal with what they are facing. Whether they are struggling with an upsurge of symptoms or smoldering long term issues, they usually hope and desire an atmosphere where their concerns are being listened to . My own hope is to calm the waters allowing the time for things to get better.

At different times in our lives we need different things. In a crisis, we may look for support and guidance. In times of relative calm, we might be curious about how to change a long-standing pattern of being. We may be looking for ways to manage anxiety or depression, improve relationships, find a direction, heal trauma or grieve a loss. Sometimes we know what we need, and many times we can’t quite figure out what's wrong. Generally, we come to therapy to feel better. Therapy can be a place to do that. Si busca ayuda en una crisis, un cambio en manera de ser, o alivio de problemas relacionales, ansiedad, o depression, lo/a invito.

While each individual is shaped by unique personal, cultural and social factors, we all share an intrinsic desire for self-realization. I seek to help adults, adolescents and couples explore their full range of emotions in an effort to develop the emotional insight necessary to facilitate meaningful change. Together, we will work to begin identifying themes and patterns from across the individual’s lifespan to gain insight into thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in the present.

Life is a cumulative series of relationships that shape the way we see ourselves and others. Most people are unaware of the value of specialty training among mental healthcare providers. LMFTs are experts in relationship issues- between partners, extended family and children. Please do not consult a therapist without the appropriate credentials. A therapist is like a surgeon, you put your life (and the lives of those around you) in our hands, especially if it’s the decision to leave your marriage. Through communication skills building, partners and family members can improve their relationships and the quality of their lives.

It is possible to have a mind; your mind, that you can depend on and turn to when you are under stress. It is also possible as a parent to gain a new understanding of your child’s challenging behaviors and find this a useful resource to support your child in learning to regulate their emotions, elicit emotional support, and/or create safe and healthy peer relationships. I help guide and invite adolescents and adults to know more about what they are feeling, understand why they are feeling it in a particular way, and to handle their emotions in ways that benefit themselves and others.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
