Hi! My name is Christie Cutshall, LCSW and I currently live in East Tennessee with my husband and three bonus teenagers. I am a graduate of East Tennessee State University. I have spent the last 11 years in social work and started practicing as a therapist for the last 6 years. I enjoy working with individuals, families, and couples. I believe that as individuals we are unable to grow unless we help change and improve the environment in which we grow in…only then can we truly grow; with this being said, therapy is a way to seek improvement for growth and begin the journey of insight.

Life can feel like a struggle sometimes. We may have had negative experiences, and may find ourselves stuck in certain patterns or ways of reacting. As a therapist my goals are to explore and validate my clients’ experiences, help them better understand where our patterns come from and help to empower my clients to find new ways to move forward.

I specialize in working with clients who are having symptoms with anxiety, depression, sexuality, religious trauma, interpersonal relationships, ADHD, and trauma. My role and passion as a therapist, is to work alongside my client(s) to help them accomplish their goals in alleviating their current areas of concern and growth. My hope for each of my clients is for them to aquire the tools and knowledge needed for them to gain peace and fulfillment within their life.

This is not your typical therapy session. For change to occur, we must resource the nervous system in a healthy way to process emotions and feel safe in our bodies. Culturally many of us have been taught to process emotions cognitively and with rationalizing the 'why' of events. However, this doesn't calm our nervous system; in fact, where this way of coping may have served us well at one point in our lives, it may now make the struggle to manage overwhelming emotions harder. Therapies like somatic awareness and brainspotting help to create new neural pathways to feel safe and change how we made meaning of events and core wounding.

As a counselor, I truly enjoy working with adults and children to overcome obstacles and situations that may have them "stuck" in unproductive and unhealthy cycles. I approach every client with respect and listen to their story to understand them fully and collaboratively work towards their goals. My specialization of practice includes trauma, and varied mental health issues. I seek to provide a safe, comfortable space for counseling where clients feel supported, heard and can be open to learn about themselves and embrace the journey of change. To better serve those I work with, I have begun to incorporate EMDR and Sand tray to address many issues in the therapeutic setting. I also have experience with use of CBT, TFCBT, DBT and will use the modality that best suits the need of the person I am working with. I tend to be solution focused in my approach but choose the best approach for each individual client.
