My work is psychodynamically and insight oriented, utilizing modalities such as internal family systems, narrative therapy, and attachment theory.
Sometimes we end up living our lives based off of other people’s values, expectations, or societal norms rather than figuring out what feels true for us. And before we know it, life can feel like an old sweater that once was cozy, but doesn’t quite fit right anymore. We are growing and changing humans after all! Therapy can be a place where we practice taking off our masks, and discover our own truths. Where we learn about who we are underneath other’s expectations, and in turn strengthen feelings of pleasure, joy, and deepen relationships.

It is in my belief that we are all intrinsically whole, deserving and worthy of love and meaningful connections. However, somewhere along the way we have incurred pain and hurtful experiences that have tainted our story and lens of how we see the world and ourselves. Sometimes the narrative runs so deep that we can’t stop the thoughts and feelings that flow continuously. In this way, everyday feels like a struggle. Perhaps you secretly feel lost and lonely or you struggle with feelings of anxiety, insecurity or sadness and are uncertain about how to navigate the complexity of your emotions. Wherever you are - your story matters.

This integrative approach borrows from a range of therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic, relational, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and play therapy with younger clients.
Life can be tough, but there are opportunities for healing and personal growth buried within even our most difficult moments. Psychotherapy is an excellent tool to help ground us, repair our relationships, and regain perspective in the wake of overwhelming worry, confusion, or loss. I work with adolescents and adults of all ages, providing a safe and non-judgmental space for you to express what you've had difficulty expressing, explore the unexamined parts of your heart and mind, and to support you in the healing journey of stepping into the life you want to live.

Drawing on my background as a musician, writer, and dancer, I use creativity and expressive arts to access emotions, discover a new narrative, and find meaning in your experiences.
Getting support is more important than ever. I help clients adjust to change, including loss, overcome difficulties with relationships of all kinds, address attachment issues, PTSD, and anxiety. I work collaboratively—a strong connection between therapist and client is the foundation of good therapy. Listening deeply to clients, I draw on 40 years as a somatic practitioner (incl. 10 years as a massage therapist) and use intuition, empathy, compassion, and humor to help guide the process. I integrate proven and effective mind-body techniques to alleviate chronic stress and pain and achieve wellness through life-style changes.

My approach to therapy is person-centered; meaning that therapy is for you and defined by you. I aim to create a supportive, affirming, and warm therapeutic environment where you feel comfortable to show up authentically as you are. I believe that the best therapeutic work is done when you feel calm, respected, and heard by your therapist. My therapeutic style is eclectic and draws from several evidence-based modalities including Rogerian, Relational and Narrative Therapy. I also incorporate skills from CBT and DBT into my practice.

I take a strengths-based, narrative approach to therapy.
I believe we all share the need to be deeply understood, especially during difficult or challenging times. I appreciate the courage clients show when they share stories of their lives. Without fail, I find these stories layered, complex, unique and moving. I admire clients who dare to share life stories that are "works-in-progress" -- messy, drafty, tentative. Stories with icky parts (that's a technical term!)... or tender parts...or broken parts... or out-dated parts. Stories with gaps -- spaces -- where yet-to-be-written parts will go. .I believe this process leads to healing and transformation.

Utilizing a non-pathologizing and trauma-informed lens, I help clients put together a cohesive narrative of their life experiences to empower them to begin building a life that feels aligned with their goals and values.
My clients often come to me with a history of trauma or adversity, and a strong desire to process and understand how their past has shaped them to be the person they are today. They’re motivated, insightful, eager to grow, and have a strong desire to learn the skills necessary to have healthier relationships, better communication, and improved confidence. Through our work together, we begin to understand and develop the tools necessary to manage anxiety and depressive symptoms that can at times be a barrier for further growth.

My approach is trauma informed, with specialties in CBT, ACT, narrative, and family-systems theories.
Hi there! Do you find yourself with a near constant sense of unease? Are you often feeling overwhelmed by your relationships, career, or expectations you feel others have for you? Maybe there are certain things you feel like you need to do to relieve that unease, and if you don't, you'll be crushed by the weight of it all. Do you ever feel as though you have to conform to certain expectations of the world around you? Maybe you haven't seen yourself reflected in what others see as "successful," "mature," or even "good."

While incorporating a strength-based, trauma-informed lens, I use a blend of psychotherapeutic styles including narrative therapy, CBT, and psychoanalysis.
It can be difficult processing who we are, what we have experienced, and how we should move forward in the face of adversity. I welcome individuals to share their story unapologetically and unpack these life experiences. I work to build a collaborative relationship that aims to empower and uplift while fostering safety and trust. I offer an affirming, safe space for people who identify as a POC and/or LGBTQIA+ to explore their identities holistically and deconstruct their own narrative within a larger system. Together, we can create a plan with your specific needs and goals in mind.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
