When OCD, depression, and anxiety get in the way of living fully, I help clients reclaim their lives and get unstuck. Clients that work with me are reflective, curious, and intentional about personal growth. Sometimes, clients aren't sure how to name the challenges they're experiencing, and they just have a hunch that life doesn't have to be as hard as it is now. That's okay! You don't need a diagnosis or the perfect description of your symptoms to start counseling. I understand that disorders show up in diverse ways, and I take time to listen to my clients so that treatment can be responsive to their unique needs.

A specific type of CBT, know as Exposure/Response-Prevention, is the treatment of choice for OCD.
Although by orientation I'm a cognitive-behavioral therapist--that is, I focus on how thoughts and actions affect how we feel and respond to situations--I don't follow a cookbook approach to treatment. Each individual brings a unique set of problems to therapy, and I start with a thorough evaluation to assess your needs and develop a collaborative treatment plan that is personal yet based on current research. This type of therapy is focused more on the present than the past and on developing coping skills to help you deal with the problems that are currently troubling you.

As a licensed psychologist, I specialize in the treatment of individuals with OCD, anxiety disorders, and substance use difficulties, as well as families of individuals who struggle in these ways.
You might be someone who is plagued by doubts. You fear that something awful will happen and feel the need to protect yourself or others from the threat. Your family and friends might try to reassure you, but you just keep imagining worst case scenarios. Perhaps you find yourself engaging in unhelpful behaviors that get in the way of the things that are important to you. Nobody can understand why you keep making these choices, despite their negative consequences. I hope to navigate these challenges with you in a safe and affirming space, where you feel accepted and understood.

I am a psychologist specializing in ADHD assessment and CBT for anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, and depression. Anxiety, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, trauma, and depression can feel both distressing and debilitating. If you have tried to manage your anxiety on your own and found that relief often feels temporary, with anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or distressing memories eventually returning, an approach that addresses long-term symptom management could help. In therapy with me, we will work to build skills that can help you find lasting relief with therapies that are empirically proven to work, including CBT, PE, and ERP.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
