Psychological distress often arises when there is misalignment between the person we are in the moment and the person we’d like to be. Whether it’s internal obstacles such as anxiety, addiction, depression, ADHD, or unresolved trauma, or external obstacles such as unhealthy relationships, work demands, or various systems of oppression and injustice, there are many things in that can prevent us from identifying and moving towards our values. My primary goal as your therapist is to help you feel empowered to live a fuller, richer, and more meaningful life.

The difficult thoughts and feelings that we hold deep within ourselves can negatively impact our mood, success, health, and overall happiness. In therapy, it takes bravery to unearth, examine, and learn from our life experiences in the therapeutic process. I help clients with many types of difficulties including anxiety, depression, work stress, culture and identity issues, adult ADHD, trauma, and social/relational problems with partners, friends, and family. Further, I have experience working with young and older adults, college students, high-level professionals, and executives.

Therapy should be a safe place for people to express their emotions, improve relationships, and explore and discuss their previous experiences. I believe it is crucial to provide support and empathy in order to create a nurturing therapeutic environment. I am committed to helping clients identify their personal strengths and form positive and healthy connections with different people in their lives. I recognize the difficulty in seeking help, and I am honored when clients trust me to enter their lives to help them overcome difficult situations.

I provide a safe place in which you can reveal, explore, understand and heal. It is often a painful crisis that starts the therapeutic venture; the end of a relationship, the loss of a job, a frightening illness, children leaving home. Along with mourning what's lost, there is an opportunity to regroup and redfine one's priorities. I help clients find resilience in the face of life's challenges.

I'm an interactive individual and couples therapist who believes that sometimes a short series of focused sessions can resolve a painful dilemma, while complicated, deeply rooted issues may call for a substantial course of treatment. In either case, your therapy should look like nobody else's -- because it takes its shape uniquely around you. I'm experienced and well-trained. When we meet, I'll listen with care and speak honestly about how I see your particular situation and what I think would help.

I believe that the therapy relationship has the ability to provide healing, growth and change. Finding a therapist who helps you feel safe, supported and challenged is central to this process. My style is warm and curious as well as direct and challenging. I am an active participant in the process as we seek out the hard and stuck places that get in the way of balance and meaningful relationships.

I've helped my patients make the most of both positive and difficult experiences, while reducing negative outcomes. This expertise has been developed through work with my patients, my training in and provision of MDMA-assisted Psychotherapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Integrative Harm Reduction for Substance Use Disorders, and from teaching other health providers about Psychedelic Integration through Fluence Psychedelic Training.

I invite clients struggling with an array of issues from anxiety, codependency, addiction, and eating disorders to work with me. I am usually the best fit for people who are motivated and looking to make difficult changes in their life that they have struggled with managing on their own and need more support with. In a world of artificial intimacy (AI), my goal as a therapist is to build authentic connections with people to help them shrink the gap between where they are and where they want to be. When working with me, my approach is gently direct and collaborative.

If you’re feeling like something is missing and finding it difficult these days to feel grounded in yourself, I want to help you figure out what’s getting in the way so you can feel like your true self again. Unresolved grief, trauma, feelings of abandonment, shame, and anger can hide in the unconscious mind and keep us stuck in toxic patterns that ruin relationships, sex and our sense of self. Anxiety, fear, and unmanaged stress can wreak havoc on our ability to hold on to a sense of hope. For BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals, fear of violence and oppression adds more stress to the weight of these hardships.

In an age of ambivalence, avoidance and anesthesia, I recognize a need to slow down, be centered and get mindful of who we are to then decide what we are doing, where we are going and why. For many (men in particular!), this numbness extends beyond what we do and seeps into our emotional, mental and spiritual lives as we search for ways to be braver, bolder, and better. I employ a balanced mind-body-spirit approach to support those facing “substance” abuse struggles, anxiety/depression, life changes, career moves, relationship issues, grief and general life transitions.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
