Terry Samuels earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in December 1994 from Armstrong Atlantic University. Terry obtained his Master of Public Administration degree in December 1996 from Georgia State University. Terry obtained his Master of Professional Counseling degree in December 2015 from Grand Canyon University. Terry completed a 10-month internship at Intown Psychological Associates and completed the hours required for his associate license. Terry is a fully licensed therapist in the state of Georgia (LPC011391). Terry obtained his doctorate in psychology from Grand Canyon University in November of 2023.

At Brighter Brains we use a holistic approach to treat problems at the source ... the brain. When one experiences traumas, losses, or injury, it can lead to actual changes in brain signaling and connectivity that negatively affect our mood and daily functioning. Brain-body health is necessary for maintaining long-term mental stability, physical wellness, and spiritual contentment. Individualized protocols are customized for each client using state-of-the-art equipment and proven treatment methods to address problems directly and provide relief quickly. Our approach to mental health is non-invasive and non-pharmaceutical.

Alcira holds a master’s in social work from NYU and a certificate in Theology. Often described as patient, compassionate and a good listener, Alcira became a therapist because she is curious about human behavior, personalities and cultures. As a therapist, she hopes to uplift her guests with her intuitive, sensitive and client-led approach. She has experience with a variety of concerns, including anxiety and depression, suicidal thoughts, obsessive compulsive disorder and trauma. Outside of work, Alcria enjoys outdoor activities, writing and drawing and long walks in nature. She also enjoys trying different foods.

Up front, I'm not the therapist for everyone. I don't have a flowery sales pitch about self-fulfillment and safe spaces, I'll probably be wearing an old t-shirt and jeans, I encourage expressive profanity, and I have more tattoos than your average therapist. Most of my caseload is trauma and PTSD. Much of the trauma work involves complex trauma with co-occurring dissociation, personality disorders, substance abuse, and anger. My work with trauma clients includes adult and adolescent survivors of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, both active duty and retired military personnel, and first responders.

I believe in promoting healing and healthy mind through effective psychotherapy. Life as magnificent as it is, comes with challenges that can overwhelm an individual to the point where his/her daily functioning is significantly impaired. Psychotherapy provides a means for managing and coping with issues that at some time or another interfere with daily functioning. My goal is to assist individuals with learning how to manage/cope with the challenges presented by life.

Effective psychotherapy includes building rapport, trust, and achieving awareness through a collaborative process where patient and therapist work together to achieve stated goals. It includes evidence-based methods, learning about the issue or disorder, applying solutions and developing skills and strategies to manage emotions and realize your incredible strength and ability to persevere in the face of adversity and find acceptance in loss/grief and life's uncertainties. Initially, therapy can be challenging, but it does become easier over time. To reduce your anxiety, I created a safe, professional, nonjudgmental environment.

While many of the things life throws at us can be challenging and painful, they can also become a catalyst to showcase our strengths, resiliency, and opportunity for growth. I feel that our experiences, both positive and negative, help shape who we are, and make us unique. Through counseling, developing a better understanding of our histories, along with the connection to this and current functioning in various aspects of our lives; we can greatly enhance insight into ourselves as to why we do what we do.

I am a licensed counselor and a certified alcohol & drug counselor. I have over 20 years of experience working with those with life dominating issues including substance abuse and dependence, depression, anxiety, marriage & family issues and trauma. I have been trained in EMDR and have experience in residential treatment and acute hospital care.
