Shift Counseling uses an eclectic model to guide multiple treatment approaches. We work to individualize treatment to best meet the needs of each client. We prefer to walk alongside individuals, rather than push from behind or pull from in-front. I'm a Colorado native with 20 years of experience in counseling. Our mission is to let you identify changes and then set those goals as we support you every step of the way. I offer a range of specialty services that generally fall outside the typical categories and tend to use a “whole person” approach to treatment and stabilization, though over the last 10+ years of intensive couple’s and individual work I’ve treated almost everything and welcome all issues large or small, no matter the complexity. I offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy as well as Spiritual Emergence Coaching and meditation training for issues where mental health and spirituality meet. Lastly, I offer specialty testing to precisely identify problems and diagnoses, then use these to best determine what treatment will be most helpful.

My two greatest passions are working with those who are wanting to live out their Christian faith in a way that is honoring to God and to walk with individuals to discover real and life-changing hope. Clients that I work well with want to acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses while seeking to grow in their fellowship with God. It is hard to reconcile that life is hard and God is good. I am, first and foremost, a highly trained Christian Therapist. For over thirty years I have worked with couples, individuals, and families helping put an anchor back into their lives. As a Marriage and Family Therapist who is licensed in both Colorado and California, I have two Masters degrees: a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Masters of Divinity (a three-year ministerial academic training) both earned from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California that has been coined “The Princeton of the West”. I use a "systems" approach to marriage and family therapy which means I view each person as part of a whole.

Life will inevitably bring up intense emotions and feelings: shame, fear, confusion, etc. Overwhelming pressure, life transitions, past trauma, or simply the burden of daily stressors can pile on you until it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. When overwhelmed, you may find it relatively impossible to maintain close relationships with family, friends, and significant others. This can create a vicious cycle of anxiety, isolation, and hopelessness. It can feel like you have no way out of this bleak season.

David has over 23 years of experience in the mental health field with a M.A. in Counseling and a Master of Divinity degree. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a CADC (cerified alcohol drug counselor).
