I am a Certified Sand Tray Therapist, here to provide a safe and nurturing environment for you to explore your inner world. Sand tray therapy is a form of play therapy used with all ages, providing a unique avenue for nonverbal expression. Through the tactile engagement with sand and the selection of objects, clients are able to delve deeper into their subconscious, bringing forth emotions and experiences that may otherwise remain hidden through talk therapy. Sand tray offers a sanctuary for processing trauma and addressing issues that traditional talk therapy may struggle to reach.

I believe that symptoms are the psyche's way of communicating, urging us to delve deeper into understanding and nourishing our inner selves. I aim to foster acceptance and understanding, even of the parts of ourselves we may find objectionable, recognizing their inherent value in our journey towards wholeness. Together, we'll explore the depths of your experiences, understanding that the work is often most intense where the soul resides. We will also clarify your values and character strengths within the fluid fabric of human experience. My goal is to support you in living with greater clarity, peace, intuition, and sense of self.

As someone who is LGBTQIA+ and grew up in a conservative community, I know how living inauthentically can weigh on you. Pleasing others at the expense of yourself can have some challenging and long-term consequences. What starts as suppressing your emotions ends up as ongoing depression and anxiety as you continually make choices to minimize conflict rather than truly meet your own needs. While the path forward can feel confusing, there is hope for finding a sense of clarity and relief, and awakening to a life that you genuinely want to engage with and thrive in.

Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, stress, anger, past traumas, and relationship issues? Do you deal with personal concerns, family, career and/or life difficulties? My approach is persons-centered, integrative, and collaborative. Modalities often used in our sessions are, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Psychodynamic, Motivational Interviewing, Solutions Focused Therapy, Talk Therapy, and Validation Therapy. I use a Strengths-Based Model that promotes healing, motivation, progress, and positive outcomes. It is often difficult to take the first step to reach out to explore therapy. It doesn't have to be.

Understanding that changes are needed in order to live the life you want does not always equate feeling ready to do so, or knowing where to start. If you are feeling as if your emotional bandwidth is compromised by internal conflict or outside stressors, it may be difficult to allow yourself to try something new. As a relational therapist, I cultivate the connection and safety that are needed to help my clients to feel more willing to challenge themselves and their beliefs in the interest of personal growth.

In my 15-year career as a Marriage & Family Therapist in private practice, I help individuals and couples navigate change: Identify change they desire. Achieve and sustain conscious change. Endure change they didn’t expect and/or don’t want. If communication is a problem... If your relationship is conflict-filled, lonely, sexually unsatisfying, stuck... If you're struggling with a major life decision, change or crisis... Please reach out. Together, we'll figure out what's in your way. That is, what needs to stop, start or be different to make your relationship with yourself or significant others feel good?

My ideal client is trying to understand not only the root causes that created a less than optimal life functioning emotionally, socially, occupationally, academically, or intrafamilially, but the actual cognitive behavioral steps to remedy the problem. I believe most problems we encounter in our everyday lives can be improved upon and transformed into a life we have chosen.

Imagine a space where you can be totally and completely yourself without fear of judgment. Healing is a creative and personal process which requires us to use many tools. Together, we can navigate the art studio to express conflicted emotions, practice mindfulness, reflect and create insight into your inner world. I provide an integrative approach to therapy that marries both art therapy and traditional psychotherapy. No experience using art materials is needed. Here we can traverse the challenges of daily life, promote positive change, increase self-esteem, destress and cultivate a creative outlet to process difficult experiences.

I provide a supportive, holistic, responsive, warm space and help you develop new coping skills, awareness, self-discovery, growth, and healing. I believe in an individual and integrative approach and go beyond talk therapy; the tools and techniques will differ depending on your needs. Together, we will create a new vision of who you want to be and what you want to accomplish in your journey, discover your true potential, as well as to create opportunities, and achieve your goals. I often use the Positive Psychology field of theory and research, focusing on both individual and social well-being versus the stigma of diagnosis.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
