My approach to counseling and psychotherapy is rooted in psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, and attachment-based work, which provides a deeper understanding of how past experiences and the therapeutic interactions within the therapy room influence one's present life and relationships.
Knowing we can be loved exactly as we are gives us the best opportunity to grow into the healthiest people. Relational psychotherapy and counseling help restore hope and connection, even during seasons of immense pain and suffering. Having a place where you can be heard and feel known is essential while working through heavy feelings, emotions, thoughts, and difficult experiences. As therapy deepens, individuals I work with gain insight into the presenting symptoms and patterns of behavior that initially brought them to see me.

Most of the people I see are aching to be seen and understood at a deep level. Many have felt invisible for a long time. I believe that each person I work with is a unique and complex individual needing support that is considerate of their individual situation.

My main modalities are attachment-based approach; CBT and DBT methods; strength-based; client-centered; and interpersonal processing.
I am a trauma-informed therapist who works with adult clients in individual therapy. I have a special heart for working with individuals who struggle with boundary issues, codependency, self-esteem, and shame. I also work with survivors of emotional/narcissistic abuse; clients with ADHD; and those with relational/attachment trauma through abuse and neglect in their family of origin. Another area I serve is supporting individuals who are in their faith deconstruction journey or have experienced spiritual abuse. My clients are of all faith backgrounds but for those who are seeking it, I also offer Christian counseling.

I went into the field of psychology because I love helping people transform to the best version of themselves. We all need a safe place to understand ourselves and how we relate to others/self. I often say "We need to be Mindful of our Total-Well Being and that our minds and our bodies are an inter-connected systems. Where the mind goes, so does the man or woman in their actions and body states. We go to the physician for our physical health, so how much healthier would we be if we went to our psychologist for our mental health?" At heart, I am a holistic practitioner and love seeing my clients Thrive.

I approach treatment through an attachment-based, trauma-informed, psychodynamic lens and collaborative framework, recognizing that you are the expert of your life experience.
We are wired to repeat deeply learned patterns that, at a certain point, no longer serve us. Whether it’s in your personal relationships, or your relationship with yourself, at times you may find yourself feeling stuck in a repetitive loop, with outcomes that feel undesirable or out of your control. Together we can identify and explore these patterns in order to define your goals and work towards meaningful growth.

My ideal client is an individual who is dealing with low self-esteem, past trauma affecting current goals, coping skills, setting boundaries, family conflict, parental issues, anger management, etc. Some struggle with managing stress and expressing their feelings to others because of fear of judgment. They grew up in a household that strived for perfectionism, felt like a failure, and felt like they let people down. They have difficulty expressing their feelings to others because they fear judgment.

In Psychotherapy, it is the relationship between the patient and the therapist that allows for the patient to search for understanding into the nature of their difficulties. It is within the safety, confidentiality and understanding acceptance that the patient is encouraged to reveal intimate parts of themselves that allow the therapist to identify characteristic problems and patterns of behavior. Seemingly unexplainable behavior, thought patterns and symptoms turn out to have identifiable meanings beyond the awareness of the patient. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is aimed at personality changing goals and symptom relieving efforts. The patient is always in control of the therapeutic process.

Maybe you've "been there, done that." Tried that program or seen that counselor or taken that medication. Nothing seems to be working. Once-per-week therapy doesn't seem like enough to get you over the hump, yet, spending 30 days away from home isn't an option, either. It's a good thing we believe there's no right way to do treatment for mental health issues including depression and anxiety, mood disorders, substance use, compulsive behaviors, disordered eating/eating disorders, the list goes on and on. Plus, the "problem" is never the actual problem, right?

I am convinced the client/therapist relationship is one of the most healing aspects of therapy, so I take great care in making sure I treat my clients with honesty, respect, and compassion. In working together, we can create a deep connection and find balance in your life. Through this process we can shine a light on issues that may be causing difficulty and trauma for you.

"Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes." C.G. Jung-- You might suffer from anxiety, depression, grief, and/or relationship issues, but the key is that you are willing to explore why. My philosophy is holistic in that I feel like it is important to examine each part of life because I truly believe everything is connected when it concerns mental, emotional, and physical suffering and pain. I have recently completed a yoga teacher certification so I am able to incorporate somatic principles and movement into my work with clients.

I hold two fundamental beliefs about all humans; firstly, I believe every individual is infinitely unique. Secondly, I think every person can grow and be better than they are today. I believe my job is to help you find the tools and resources you need to continue growing. My favorite aspect of therapy is that it can be tailored to individuals' authentic thoughts, feelings, experiences, needs, or desires.

I work with individuals, couples and families who have come to understand that various aspects of their lives may be in the need of change. A willingness to self-reflect along with a desire to move towards wellness are two critical elements essential for lasting change and personal growth. My role as a counselor is to journey alongside those willing to embrace transition into wellness and wholeness by their own definition. I offer a solution based, emotion focused, positive approach in dealing with the difficulties of life.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
