Marriage & Family Therapist, PhD, LMFT, LPC, NCC, RN
Do you need a safe place to talk about difficult issues? There are countless benefits of therapy, however most people do not realize it, even when struggling with difficult problems or decisions. They often go weeks, months, even years carrying their burden alone. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Professional Counselor, and Registered Nurse with certificates in Divorce and Family Mediation and Medical Family Therapy.
Are you struggling with self-image? Were you reared in a culture of degradation as opposed to one of exhortation, and as a result grapple with self value? ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. The foundation of my approach to counseling, is that clients have to put in the work when they make the decision to come to therapy; this is how clients will be the most successful in their journey. Therapy can be messy, and the most impactful thing I can do for my clients is hold space, bring things into awareness that they might be missing, and find different, more effective ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving.
I am a compassionate, feeling and caring counselor who will listen to your story with empathy and sensitivity. I work with individuals dealing with anxiety, stress, depression and anger as well as many other mental health issues. I counsel all populations including underprivileged, LGBTQIA, African Americans, veterans, homeless, unemployed, abused or the ill as well as people victimized by various forms of ageism, racism, sexism and other oppressions. My goal is to tenderly and gently assist clients with their troubles and issues such that they can regain confidence and self-esteem in efforts to live productive and fulfilling lives.
Many of my clients have anxiety that presents as overthinking, indecision, self-criticism, and deriving worth from performance. The self-doubt and rumination can be emotionally exhausting and contribute to overwhelm, depression, and unhelpful coping patterns. We often identify earlier life experiences that formed a belief of not being good enough, capable, or worthy of love. If this sounds like you, we might be a good fit for therapy. In my practice, I primarily utilize relationally and developmentally informed Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to uncover and approach deeply held core beliefs developed throughout the lifespan.
I believe that we can heal and grow if given the appropriate environment. As a therapist, trauma specialist, and speaker, I take on a collaborative, multi-faceted approach that incorporates neuroscience, attachment, and trauma-informed resources. I am committed to working with individuals from all walks of life to help them gain clarity and achieve goals, while identifying and integrating trauma that may be keeping them stuck. Whether you're coping with an identity crisis, grief/loss, narcissistic abuse, a tough life transition, or a chronic "stuck" pattern (or all of the above!), YOU ARE NOT ALONE. YOU ARE NOT BROKEN.
It is hard to reach out to someone to ask for help especially when you are having to deal with something so personal. Let me commend you for taking that first step to seek help with whatever you are dealing with. If you or your child are dealing with a past trauma, anxiety, depression, or having behavioral challenges then I would love to be able to help. I love working with individuals or families to help you overcome the challenges you are having and build a life worth living, whatever that is for you.
CURRENTLY I AM NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. We live in a culture that sometimes stigmatizes our decisions to seek counseling — it’s as if our drive to reduce our suffering is, somehow, a sign of weakness. May I suggest that the exact opposite is true? Not only is it heroic to stop distracting and running away from ourselves, but a genuine act of love and self-respect. May our work together be a framework from which all concerned, myself included, emerge as kinder and more authentic sentient beings.
People seek therapy for many different reasons. Your issues may seem “common”, but your story and how you came to face these struggles is unique. For this reason, I place the utmost importance in making sure I hear YOU and your story. It’s my belief that for meaningful healing to take place it starts with a sense of safety and connection. We feel most safe and connected when we are met with emotional accessibility, responsiveness, and engagement. I will always do my best to make sure you feel validated and heard.
Congratulations! By seeking support you are already exhibiting emotional strength and taking steps to increase it! Does it seem like your mind is your worst enemy? Do you want to learn how to challenge the way you think? Strong Mind Counseling & Wellness (SMCW) will help you build a personal toolbox to get your mind back on your side and improve your overall well-being.
