Do you feel overwhelmed by all the different aspects of life we're somehow supposed to juggle? Do your unpredictable moods and anxiety affect your relationships? Have you ever felt like you just don't know what the next step should be in your life? You can overcome these challenges. And you don't have to do it alone. I specialize in helping those with anxiety, trauma, and relationship struggles take those next steps with confidence, repair damaged relationships, and bring growth and new insight to their lives.
You're a woman who has tried therapy in the past. You felt heard and supported but you still don't feel different. You understand your past more and maybe even feel like the expert on yourself. When the past comes up you cry, tense up, get defensive, yell, isolate yourself, feel guarded, helpless, or even voiceless. You're scared you'll keep making the same mistakes in dating, marriage, parenting, and life. You often feel anxious, unheard, unsatisfied, unsafe, or unloved. Sometimes you think, "I suck!" What you desperately want is to release what swirls around your head and body but you feel stuck.
Are you dealing with stress, relationship issues, mood disorders, career/professional concerns, or life transitions? Are you feeling overwhelmed and imbalanced? When this happens, everything else suffers from your personal to your professional life, including how you feel. You may find it challenging to find the right therapist who can help you heal. Just know that you are not alone. It can be difficult to seek therapy, especially if you tried it before and felt like it didn't work. “One size does not fit all.” Our approaches are tailored to the needs of each individual to help you find long lasting solutions. We can help.
The experiences which brought you here are important. Whatever is challenging you has an impact on you and those you care about. Your wellbeing is essential. I believe therapy is a form of self-care. It is a time for reflection, insight, and growth. Counseling also offers opportunities for healing, effective coping, balance, and clarity. My hope for you is that therapy leads to a greater sense of safety, stability, choice, and positive change.
Welcome! I’m so grateful you’re here. I believe deeply in the inherent worth and healing capacity of all human beings. I view the therapeutic relationship as a sacred, expansive, and co-created space that allows us to show up authentically, get curious, engage with vulnerability, and step into our power. I believe that within therapy, we work to expand our capacity to be in relationship with ourselves and the world around us. As your trauma-informed therapist, you can expect me to show up authentically as a human first and foremost.
Everyone has a Sense of Spirit. Counseling & Spiritual Well-Being involves the integration of one’s own Sense of Spirit in the therapeutic/coaching process to allow for the illumination and liberation of the Spirit, the Sacred Self. When we do not integrate and rely on our sense of Spirit in our lives we experience suboptimal functioning, “dis-eases” or “dis-orders.” We often compare ourselves to others, our relationships are likely struggles for control & power, and we may feel lost or confused about our life purpose.
My theoretical approach is based on a holistic approach that helps to identify individual personal strengths and resources to develop more effective coping mechanisms to stress and identify solutions that help an individual develop skills that will influence and change behaviors.
What I have found in my 20 years of experience in practicing, teaching and publishing in the field of therapy is that I learn something new from every client that I treat. The goal of therapy, in my opinion, is to provide enough emotional safety for clients to examine their lives and create a narrative that allows for growth and connection.
I have experience treating eating disorders, addictions, developmental trauma, PTSD, relationship issues, bad body image, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders. I am certified in EMDR and have received training in such therapeutic modalities as neurofeedback, interpersonal neurobiology, Internal Family Systems, family therapy, schema therapy, and somatic experiencing. I received my Masters in Counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and have since practiced in both residential treatment centers and outpatient settings.
We know how important self-care and the health of our minds can be, especially in the season in which we have found ourselves. During these moments of uncertainty, new concerns are brought to light and create additional anxieties, fears, and doubts. Sometimes the skills we utilized are no longer enough, and we require additional help navigating our situation. By working together, we can help establish new ways for you to manage the world around you. Sessions can be in-person with precautions or tele-therapy to continue to improve mental and physical health when there isn’t a clear path through.
Carl Rogers, the father of Person-centered therapy, once stated, "The curious paradox is when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." I love to work with those people who have decided they are tired of "being tired" and have intention to make positive changes in their life. Whether it be dealing with anxiety, depression, past traumas or current stresses, my passion is to provide counsel, encouragement and empower people toward wellness.
Dealing with a life change or crisis, ongoing mental health concern or relationship issues can be very challenging alone. I am here to provide support through these issues. Meeting with me on a weekly to monthly basis can help you change thoughts and behaviors that affect your emotions. Each person I meet with was brought up differently, thinks differently and has experienced life differently. So I develop a treatment plan for each person to meet their needs. Contact me to see if I can help you through this time in your life.
