I'm not the expert on your life, YOU are. With the perspective of an outside observer and insight born of experience, I seek to help you map out a path to pursue healing and wholeness. I believe that ignoring your heart is as dangerous as following your heart. I instead seek to help you understand what's happening in your heart, so you can explore your inner world and respond out of a place of self-awareness and growth.
Seeking help from someone you have never met and discussing your most challenging life obstacles can be very uncomfortable and scary. However, at some point in our lives, searching for guidance and support outside of our friends and family may be needed in order to get you to your desired goal in life. Or maybe you are on the right path, but simply need validation and support. Whether your goals are decreasing anxiety, assisting with family conflict, or guidance with trauma, I can assist you with your desired outcome. I work with all ages from diverse backgrounds.
I believe that each of my clients deserves to be protected, valued, and provided with all the necessary support to become the people they strive to be. Play is the place where children’s minds, hearts, and souls meet. Through Play Therapy, children are able to heal from distressing events such as, but not limited to, trauma, grief and loss, divorce, depression, adoption, foster care and attachment issues; and to improve in myriad areas such as impulse control, emotional regulation, ADHD, OCD, and ODD. As your child’s therapist, my goal is to enable children to heal, so that they are empowered to “rise and shine” to their highest potential.
This is a time in which many are suffering from extreme anxiety having been given the order to 'Shelter in Place at Home.' As a mental health clinician I want to be available for those needing to use professional services and I am set up to take new clients for safe confidential online sessions or phone. It is especially difficult on those who have underlying emotional conditions that will become more symptomatic being in social isolation and having a sense of the unknown. I have been providing mental health therapy for thirty years and I am currently taking new clients including children and adolescents.
I work primarily with adults and married couples. I am trained in EMDR therapy to help those who have experienced trauma. I have worked extensively with couples in crisis. I also have expertise in working with people coming out of abusive relationships. I have helped clients in developing a sense of identity, boundaries, self-care, and holistic well-being. I have helped people work through processes of forgiveness, grief, eating disorder and addictions recovery, and abuse and trauma healing. Clients have expressed that I create a safe place and share practical tools toward change.
There are times in life when you feel stuck, sad, angry, or indifferent. In these times, it is helpful to have a non-bias party be a mirror on your journey to becoming the best version of you that you can be. There are also times when clients have identified that familial traditions have held them captive or even hindered their growth. Processing those things will help you to identify the best path for you as you move forward to your big picture. I would love to assist you on that journey of becoming a better you.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor working with women from diverse backgrounds, same sex couples, adolescents and children. I have been given the opportunity to work with different groups of people from many countries and belief systems. I have worked in both the secular and religious arenas and have provided spiritual integration care for people of many religious traditions and those with no religious beliefs as well. I have experience working with both children and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, loss and divorce.
I have been a counselor for 10 years. At this point, I only counsel females age 14+. My career has focused on anxiety, depression, self-worth, personal growth and development, adjustment issues, relationship struggles, communication problems, premarital counseling, etc. I have a strong desire to help people walk through their struggles, no matter how deep-rooted and dark or surface level they may be, to help them become their best self.
I like to meet my clients where they are at and assist them in overcoming barriers to get where they want to be in their lives. We can effectively develop a solution and practice skills to achieve wellness goals. While we can't always change the circumstances we are in, we can change the way we function in those circumstances. I integrate clinical expertise with compassion, dedication, laughter, and understanding.

I most enjoy working with clients who enjoy creative and non-traditional therapy methods. I have seen a lots of kids ages 6-18 for play therapy throughout my internship and that is my passion. I also love including art, music, poetry, narrative, even certain elements of play and sandtray with my adults as well. I also love incorporating mindfulness.
Our symptoms have something to say. Different symptoms bring people into psychotherapy: anxiousness, chronic sadness, creative and artistic block, loneliness, addictions, sexual obsessions. Symptoms are a language, and though they are often labeled as depression or anxiety, the meaning of a symptom is unique to the person who suffers with it. Symptoms are painful, but they are also startlingly creative, personal and specific. Sometimes the body is asked to express the scary, painful things that words cannot. When physical symptoms occur without a medical explanation, we can look to them to help us understand the mental and emotional landscape.
I provide compassionate, nonjudgmental counseling to individuals, couples, and families. I am particularly passionate about working with adolescents and their families. Learn more and contact me for a free consultation at www.markpatrickcounseling.com.
