Do you want to grow in life? I believe that wisdom and creativity emerge through openness, curiosity, and reflection on your authentic experience. Usually when we experience difficulty in life, we do our best to adapt. We might push away our pain or attempt to mentally escape our situation. This may help in the short term, but our deeper unresolved issues often resurface in confusing or distressing experiences. We can find ourselves in patterns of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or confused. These patterns are not just random occurrences but meaningful signals that something needs more attention.

You're likely trying to deal with some type of crisis or trauma - something that was too much, too soon, or too fast for you nervous system to handle. Trauma isn't always the result of a car crash, a typhoon, or a war zone. The reasons for trauma are diverse: divorce, surgery, illness, childhood injury, death of a loved one, a major medical diagnosis. At the very least, trauma results in a decreased ability to feel satisfaction, or emotional or physical pleasure. It's effects are surprisingly enduring. Now your ready to get help to address it.

Life can feel overwhelming at times. Uncertainty, unexpected challenges and self-doubt can weigh us down. Carrying such weight can cause us to experience fatigue, worry, sleepless nights, and unwanted behaviours, thoughts and emotions. What if some of that weight could be lifted. I offer compassionate care for people with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, grief and trauma. Based on an integrative mix of both person-centred and psychodynamic approaches, I endeavour to inspire compassionate self-understanding with an aim towards inner healing.

Hi, I'm Wendy, and I'm happy you stopped by. Depression, anxiety, self-criticism, self-doubt, shame, and stress can leave us feeling trapped and helpless. I'm here to tell you that although these feelings are very real and distressing, there is a way out.

Many of my clients come to me dealing with an awareness of the discomforts in their lives that often show up as a result of an over active mind. They have a desire to understand and work towards a more integrated and peaceful life. We often spent time understanding the patterns that link to current behaviours and then focus on how to shift those parts that no longer serve and work towards believing in their ability to navigate and stay centred through the ups and downs of life that are inevitable. My sessions often contain invitations towards mindfulness and somatic awareness in a mind body approach.

Talking to that right person during a time of need can be like good medicine for your mind, your heart and your life. Talk therapy provides you with a safe place to discuss your thoughts and emotions triggered by daily stressors, physical illness, relationship issues, grief and loss, the impact of a specific life circumstance or trauma. My role as your psychotherapist is to help you better understand how these stressors affect you and your life, and work with you to uncover considerations and solutions which help decrease your distress, improve your well-being, and confidence to make choices for your life which are true to you.

I believe that connections between human beings are the most healing element in therapy. The reason why you would like to find a therapist may vary. To become calm and confident. To gain your power back, to become an author and the owner of your life... To see the forest at last, instead of being lost among the trees...To feel the taste and to start seeing the beauty of life again. To feel the healing power of connection with others. To feel joy without conditions "whens" or "ifs"...To feel that you live, not survive... My clients have different needs and goals in the therapy. Whatever is your need I will be there for you.

Do you want to appear like you have it all together, but deep down, you struggle with your self-worth and feel stuck in frustrating relationship patterns? Are you battling with self-doubt and feelings of insecurity? It can leave you feeling alone, defeated, and disconnected from yourself and others. Do you rely on external validation to feel good enough? You may worry you don't measure up. You may engage in people-pleasing to maintain connections and end up neglecting your needs. It can feel exhausting. Do you wish you could feel confident, define your own worth, trust your judgment, and speak up without fear getting in the way?

**Accepting New Clients** I believe that the pain each man goes through is unique to his issues but is not dissimilar from the pain other men experience. Most men are taught about what feelings are acceptable to feel and in what situations it is acceptable to feel them. This can lead to men hearing phrases such as “toughen up”, “be strong” or “don’t cry”. Some men will say “I’m alright” when answering questions about their well being when they really aren’t “alright”. I believe such phrases and answers must be challenged. Every man deserves to be heard and have his feelings acknowledged. Together, we will work towards that goal.

Life can sometimes become overwhelming and people can benefit from a safe, open space to share their stories and receive support. Counselling and psychotherapy are services delivered through a therapeutic relationship with someone who is trained to support others. Some benefits to engaging in counselling and psychotherapy are: finding ways to solve problems, improving your self-esteem, practicing new and more positive behaviours, learning to manage emotions from stressors, developing a greater degree of self-awareness, learning to love and accept yourself, and improving your overall well-being.

Like poet Mary Oliver, many people I’ve met with over the years have questioned how best to live their “one wild and precious life”. Sometimes people have been waylaid by disappointments or losses, and are struggling to recover. Sometimes, their choices have taken them into unhappy cul-de-sacs. Sometimes, their habitual patterns sabotage even the best choices. Sometimes, they’ve been afraid to take necessary risks. And sometimes, people have just been plagued by the sense that more might be possible. What can be done to move towards a full and satisfying life?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
