Like poet Mary Oliver, many people I’ve met with over the years have questioned how best to live their “one wild and precious life”. Sometimes people have been waylaid by disappointments or losses, and are struggling to recover. Sometimes, their choices have taken them into unhappy cul-de-sacs. Sometimes, their habitual patterns sabotage even the best choices. Sometimes, they’ve been afraid to take necessary risks. And sometimes, people have just been plagued by the sense that more might be possible. What can be done to move towards a full and satisfying life?
A good place to start is to commit to thoroughly investigating what you want, what’s most important, and what you’re willing to do to change. This is the work of psychological therapy. It’s what I do. I bring more than 30 years of experience as a psychologist, working in a variety of settings with all kinds of people.
My approach is informed by training in multiple therapeutic frameworks, none of which rule me. Most important for me is to really listen. And to ask questions. To explore how it feels for you. To partner with you in charting new choices, new actions. So that it’s never just talk. To find pathways to build on strength. It's utterly worthwhile work!
