We all seek safety, health and happiness in our lives, sometimes supported by, and other times challenged by, our life experiences, relationships and larger environment. Life often provides many resources for safety, health and happiness. When our connection with these resources is somehow block or reduced, we can use a supportive, caring relationship to find our way through worries, depression, dependencies, grief, low self-esteem, relationship disturbances, and spiritual struggles.

Your current life is not what you intended. You are smart, tough, and have a moral compass, but overwhelming feelings or compulsive behaviors continue to overshadow who you know you are deep down. You have become a chronic people pleaser and overextend yourself at work. You feel burned out and can’t seem to be fully present at home. You want to get back to your normal self, but you’re not sure how to find a solution that actually “sticks”. Even thinking about solutions is draining.

I accept Cigna and Aetna insurances. I offer a sliding scale fee ranging as low as $60. I wish to challenge certain stereotypes around mental health and invite anyone, regardless of their race and/or gender to reach out for psychological services if needed. I work with clients demonstrating a range of mental health concerns, including: anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, mood and personality disorders, life transitions and stress. My preference of clients is not limited to their race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation, but their devotion to their own mental well being.

Trust and respect: Two requirements for love to grow. If your relationship is in trouble, these parts are probably missing. I specialize in helping couples rebuild when trust and respect are lost. Nothing damages a relationship more than betrayal. There is a process to not just recovering from, but redeeming what has happened. In many ways the betrayal is like a big boulder in the way of your relationship. Couples who don't address the boulder end up dragging it with them. The goal of counseling is to push the boulder out of the way and leave it behind.

Honest self-reflection is the answer to so many of our problems. At many points throughout our lives, we learn to ease life’s burdens by shutting down, acting out, or running away in attempts to find relief. Even our most destructive coping strategies were often the best answers we could find at the time to manage our anxieties, our desires, and our pain. When we allow ourselves the opportunity to slow down and reflect on our lives, both past and present, we deepen our understanding and insight. And, as we explore our lives without moralizing and harshness, we develop genuine compassion and greater trust in ourselves.

When a family member is suffering from a substance use disorder it is of paramount importance that they receive help as soon as possible, but often times they refuse treatment. If they are to be persuaded it is crucial to approach them in a manor that will make a deep and lasting impact.

Do you feel stuck and notice a longing for more? Maybe you feel like there are some unaddressed parts of your story that you're ready to work through. Maybe you feel overwhelmed with thoughts and feelings or maybe you don't feel much of anything. Often, my clients come to me feeling disconnected from their feelings and are ready to do the work of becoming more present and grounded. Others feel the burdens of childhood trauma or messy family dynamics. Others may feel like imposters in their work or social environments and desire to be more confident with who they are.

Do you have distressing thoughts that are hard to control? Do you struggle with controlling your emotions and anger? Have you had a hard time relating to others? Trauma and PTSD can make it difficult to feel hope for the future. This can result in people coping by using drugs and alcohol, having angry outbursts, and having problems feeling confident in your decisions. Trauma also can make it difficult to feel safe in your environment and relationships with others. This makes it hard to reach out for help since you are not wanting to feel like a burden to others. If this has been your experience, I want to learn how I can help.

Are you a high performer that is overwhelmed and burnt out? Do you struggle with self-care because you are trying to make other people happy? Are you upset at not meeting your goals and expectations? People might think that you have it all together, but on the inside, you are critical of yourself and disappointed. You also might struggle with feeling confident and overanalyzing your decisions. I commonly see people who lead busy lives that are struggling to fit everything in. Your main goal in life right now could be to find a good work-life balance and to have more peace in your relationships with others.

One of the most radical things we can do in this life is to take care of ourselves. Which is not something we are necessarily taught to do, and well, when we start to do it there can be some resistance. It’s taken a lot for you to get to this point, and I am so glad you found your way here. Whether this is the first time you are seeking therapy or if you have been around the block a time or two, there is a place for you here. One thing is for certain, things are not quite how you would like for them to be, and that is where therapy comes in.

The couples and individuals I work with come to therapy feeling isolated, undervalued, and unheard. If you are tired of not feeling good enough, ashamed, or angry, my hope is to help you rediscover what love means, heal your connection within yourself and each other, and create a new chapter of your story. I practice with couples and individuals from a client-focused perspective of unconditional acceptance- no matter what you bring to therapy, it has a place. I have hope that we can discover the tools together to process, heal, and journey forward finding the version of yourself that you want to be.

We all experience anxiety, depression, grief, and loneliness at times. And we all struggle with memories from childhood that greatly influence our thinking. These things make up many of the stories we use to control how we feel about the quality of our lives. Changing those stories can help you build the life you desire.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
