I have experience in a wide variety of areas. In recent years I have focused on helping people who have experienced trauma in their life. For this I utilize a specialized trauma therapy called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.) I have worked for several years with eating disorders. I also have many years experience with children and adolescents with behavioral issues. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I deal with marital and family issues.

When I decided to become a counselor 8 years ago, I wanted to help people like me. So many of us grew up believing that in order to be accepted, we had to do things perfectly. We learned that if we struggle and need help, that means there is something wrong with us - that we're too lazy, or not smart not enough, or just too needy. So we ended up carrying a lot of our burdens alone so we wouldn't bother others or let them down. But if you're like me, you've probably had moments where you just wanted to stop trying to live up to everyone's expectations, and you just wanted to be yourself.

My ideal client is someone who's life experiences may seem intimidating and overwhelming to most. Everyone deserves to have access to receive the help that they need and not be ashamed about what it is they are struggling with. I gravitate towards clients who most don't feel comfortable working with but I embrace as a challenge to help them grow and overcome what has been hindering them.

I’m only taking clients who need evaluations - not therapy at this time, but I firmly believe that everyone could use some therapeutic intervention at some point in their life & these skills should be applied in every area of our lives. For that reason, I often ask that my clients practice our skills in between sessions. It is difficult to use therapeutic skills when we need them if we do not practice them when we are calm & levelheaded. I give transparency and honesty to my clients, and I expect it in return.

My personal philosophy regarding therapy is to focus on the family unit and meet each individual member of the family where they are and treat them as an important part of the therapy. Parents often call me and state they need help for their child and my first response is to treat the child but consider the whole family unit as a part of the therapy treatment plan. Meeting the individual needs of the client is of the utmost importance.
