Do life's challenges feel overwhelming or confusing? Are you feeling alone or misunderstood? If so, I would like to invite you to partner with me as we work together to provide a platform and space for your story to be heard. Although working towards creating a plan to meet your goals is important, my focus is on establishing an understanding of who you are and how you envision our partnership as we move forward in the conversation. Understanding that this journey can be difficult, I aim to provide a relaxing, non-judgmental environment that welcomes conversation and opportunities based on what is important to you.

Sometimes we come to a season in which we realize that our current ways of dealing with past trauma, connecting with people, or balancing life stressors just aren't working anymore. I am passionate about creating a compassionate and safe setting where an individual can work through strong emotions and past trauma. There is always hope and healing that can be rewritten into the path you are currently on. I have specific training in Maternal Mental Health from Postpartum Support International as well as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).

You might wonder if hypnotherapy is available in the midst of a pandemic - when all the therapists have switched to telehealth platforms. Yes, it is! We simply must plan carefully, so that the process remains safe and comfortable. While everyone's reaction to hypnosis is unique and personal - it has a potential of effecting powerful change for you. You can begin to face what you've been avoiding - and do so with more confidence. I strive to make your sessions productive, so that you make the progress you want. It's a big decision to start therapy - so don't hesitate to ask questions up front.

Life often comes with obstacles that are too overwhelming to tackle alone. Whether these may come in the form of traumatic experiences, inner struggles, relationship issues, or life adjustments, it can be difficult to seek extra support as you navigate through them. I work to help individuals navigate their journey through life’s hurdles by helping them identify strengths within themselves and their relationships, and to find meaning in their challenges. I primarily work with older children and adults who have experienced childhood trauma, sexual/physical abuse, betrayal/infidelity, and grief/loss.

Psychotherapy accelerates a person's effectiveness and healthy functioning in the world s/he lives in. At the foundation of this process is genuine trust and respect, one that allows opportunities for exploring personal resources and strengths, habits of behavior, internal conflicts, disruptions of self-concept or attachment, familiar ways of thinking and relating, or to find ways to continue on the path chosen. Psychotherapy creates new distinctions about behavior and world view so as to act and view your self, relationships, and circumstances in new ways. Dr. Stormberg's approach is what Carl Jung described as "a practical psychotherapy to fit people for life."

Sometimes life throws us a serious curve ball, whether it's coming to terms with a new medical diagnosis, adapting a disability, coping with the stress of career transition, or the loss of a significant relationship, these dilemmas can send us reeling. Any traumatic life event can leave us angry, sad, anxious, confused, isolated or just plain stuck and overwhelmed. Together, we can handle life's curve balls such as dealing with illness, adjusting to college and/or work with a disability, overcoming job related fatigue/burnout, enhancing advocacy strategies for caregivers of disabled family members.

Our behaviors are a direct result of the thoughts we have about our feelings. When we don't understand those feelings, our behaviors might not make sense to us. 17 years of working with adolescents in an educational setting gives me a unique perspective when it comes to therapy. I love working with families and adults alike to help them feel better about themselves and create lasting connections. Connection and relationships are what make humans unique and beautiful. Struggles with relationships are often an indication of struggles within oneself. Counseling is an opportunity to work on oneself, heal, so thriving is possible.

Mental health problems don't define who you are, they are something you experience. You walk in the rain and you feel the rain, but, more importantly, you are not the rain. (-Matt Haig) I believe in an individual’s strength and ability to learn and grow from life’s challenges. As a compassionate advocate of mental health and LGBTQ+ ally, I create a safe space free of judgment for my clients to express and be their true authentic selves.

Since 1990 I've helped couples create loving, lasting relationships. A premarital inventory (FOCCUS or PREPARE) pinpoints relationship strengths, and helps resolve conflicts. PREP communication and problem-solving skills help you find win-win solutions. PREP Couples have greater satisfaction and 1/2 the risk of divorce. If you feel like giving up, couple counseling identifies the real problems and how to resolve them. If kids are driving you crazy, "Love & Logic" keeps you calm & kind as kids develop respect, responsibility & self-esteem. Individual counseling helps overcome anger, depression, fears, stress; and develop assertiveness, self-esteem, social comfort, willpower.

Everyone deserves to have their voice heard. In our everyday lives we may not always feel that others listen to what we have to say. This can increase feelings of anxiety and depression and eventually overwhelm us to a point where we don’t see any way out. I want you to know that I am here for you. What you have to say and what you think and feel is important. Not only will I listen to you, but I will guide you through the difficult struggles which come your way. You are not alone.

Are you struggling with pain? Be it pain from the past, pain from the present, or pain from fear of the future, it can be difficult to cope. Many of us have childhood trauma that contributes to difficulty in everyday living. That trauma can take a toll, not just in terms of difficult memories, but also in contributing to the development of actual psychiatric disorders.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Nebraska?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
