My ideal client is someone who has a desire to work through things and is open to hearing other points of view. Someone who will challenge themselves and create opportunities for discussion. My ideal client would be someone who has a belief system, whatever that is, and can grow from that. I feel as though a client that would work best with me would have an open mind, understanding that I am there for them, and know that I truly want the best and ideal outcome for them.
I love providing mental health care to families, children, adolescents, men and women of all ages alike. I have great interest and extensive practical experience in working with patients of mental health disorders. As a passionate advocate for women’s health, I experience in conducting psycho-educational group sessions and pregnancy centered group sessions.
Hi! My name is Joana and I’m so glad to see you here. Just by being here, I already know you are a loving and concerned caregiver. Parenting can be the most fulfilling, yet challenging experience. Being a mama of 3 I know first hand how difficult it can be sometimes. I want you to know you don’t have to do it all alone, in fact, you shouldn’t! I specialize in working with children, adolescents and caregivers dealing with behavioral issues, social skills, anger, ADHD, depression, anxiety, trauma and changes in the family dynamic.
Now accepting new patients for OON. When we experience sexual, pregnancy and birthing trauma it often impacts us for a lifetime. As women, we are given the unique experience of multiplying that which is given to us, and welcoming each new generation. But what happens when things do not go as planned? As you traverse the aftermath of what happened to you, it is often hard to connect to yourself spiritually, mentally and physically. Trauma processing feels impossible; AND you have the capacity to heal already inside of you. Let's work together to redefine the relationship with yourself and the world around you.
I am skilled at helping through the day to day struggles of anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, although my door is always open. Therapy should feel like a safe space to begin working through the tough stuff that has come up in life, and my goal is to help you discover the tools and skills to press on in this journey no matter what the circumstances. My job is not to tell you what to do, but rather to support you as you journey unfolds.
Accepting new clients as a student intern and currently approaching my final term of my master's program at Bellevue University. "Trauma creates change you don't choose. Healing is about creating the change that you DO choose." This quote allows for depth and connection between change, healing and trauma. While we navigate through change, healing, and trauma we seek deeper meaning and understandings of our own selves within our existence and displays of resilience.
We all have a unique story. One that has highs and lows, things that bring us joy, and things that have caused challenges, grief, and heartache. A desire for a life of abundance is written on our hearts. But sometimes our stories include hurdles and barriers that get in the way and keep us from the peace we long for. We often try numerous remedies or try to overcome these barriers on our own. But we aren’t meant to walk that road alone. It is my job as a therapist to create a space of safety, trust, and respect, so that you can explore, unpack, and make meaning of your experiences, and create the change that you want for your life.
I fully understand what it feels like to have all the feelings but no idea what to do with them. I also know what it’s like to “know” what to do and feel unable to make positive changes. Because of this, I firmly believe you are the expert on your own life and my role as the therapist is to support, encourage, and offer a fresh perspective on areas of struggle. Through our collaborative work, my goal is to offer guidance as you learn to embrace what it means for you to experience a fulfilling, authentic life.
If you are reading this, you may be weathering a challenging season in life. It may be hard to recognize at this moment, but I truly believe that everything you need already lies within you. I am here to offer my clients a safe and supportive environment where they feel heard, supported, and empowered as we navigate this challenging season together. Although I often incorporate psychoeducation in the therapeutic process, I ultimately believe clients are the experts in their own lives and I tend to "lead from behind".

Beginning the journey of therapy can be a difficult process but incredibly rewarding and life changing; it can assist you to discover parts of yourself that you may not have known existed. Further daunting can be the unknowns of what therapy can look like. I hope I may ease these unknowns by sharing what you can expect from working with me. My approach to counseling is very collaborative, where we first begin with gathering your narrative of what makes you “you,” next identifying the concerns that brought you to therapy, and creating a plan to address the concerns and assist you in growing towards the path and person you want to be.
