Many of us encounter situations that impact our mental health and search for someone to collaborate with to improve our mental health. I offer such collaboration to help you find your own solutions and develop your own ability to make positive changes in your life. I also provide a supportive, outside perspective, and will introduce you to evidence-based practices from both Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help you become comfortable with emotions and examine automatic thoughts and core beliefs. I may also use Existential Therapy to help you find meaning and purpose and to develop value-driven goals.
I enjoy working with preteens, adolescents, and young adults in both individual and family settings. Through counseling, my goal is to engage you in the process of positive change by establishing the skills needed to deal with and heal from life's challenging situations. I work to understand your experiences and empower you to achieve and maintain your goals. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation of a successful counseling experience and enjoy building these relationships with individuals and families so we can start working together towards improving your quality of life.
I have 30 years of experience helping people work through emotional, psychological and relational issues, both as a pastoral counselor for 13 years, and for the past 20 years as a licensed mental health practitioner. I am Grace oriented which means I take a nonjudgmental, accepting approach with clients.
I truly enjoy working with people who are looking to excel in life, who are struggling to manage their emotions healthily, trauma survivors, teenagers (13+), pastors, marriages, and anybody looking for a safe place to work through life. I tend to have a direct and caring approach to counseling, and I mainly want to explore and find truth with my clients. I find that I work best with people who are willing to be a partner in the therapeutic process and can handle some bluntness about what is going on in their life.
I enjoy working with clients of all ages and genders. Most of my early experience is with children, adolescents, and families. However, I have been working with adults on individual and couples issues for many years. I also have a lot of experience working with clients on addictions especially drugs and alcohol issues. I work will with clients that have anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues. This includes ADHD and oppositional behaviors.

“Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another, and feeling with the heart of another”-Alfred Adler We all have an innate need to be seen, heard and felt. It is my desire and goal to provide this kind of experience to each and every person I encounter. Some times, it doesn’t seem like there are enough places where we as people can go to breathe, to be, and experience unconditional acceptance. As a Christ-centered counselor, it is my top priority to reflect the love and acceptance that Christ has shared with me to you, regardless of your faith, beliefs, and lifestyle.
To live well, all aspects of an individual need time and attention. I am committed to providing safe and supportive care to help others build confidence and self-worth. As a therapist, I enjoy being able to collaborate with individuals and families to help others learn and grow in their understanding of mental health. Growing up in a small town guided my decision to pursue my passion of promoting awareness in rural Nebraska and providing education to others so that we can help support each other through the stress and challenges of life.

I believe counseling can be used for many things... Addressing a crisis or trauma, identifying a goal & developing a path toward it, resolving current concerns and even sometimes helping to clarify why you feel differently than you used to. You are the expert on your life. My job is to help you fine tune that expertise and develop skills that contribute to you leading the life you want. I am not here to give you advice or tell you what to do, but rather to work with you as you address the challenges, questions or concerns you may be facing.
Living life can be difficult and overwhelming at times. When you are ready to make time for yourself and face the problems preventing you from having the life you want; or when you don't know which way to turn and need support in finding your way... that is the time to reach out and call. I will listen and hear your voice so I in turn can help you hear your needs and desires in your life.

Do you ever feel like breaking down? Do you ever feel out of place? Like somehow you just don’t belong, and no one understands you? Thanks for the great intro pop punk band Simple Plan. But seriously, have you ever felt any of these things? I know I have. It is hard to have all these sucky feelings and have no one to turn to for support. Unfortunately, many people out there will say “Depressed? Isn’t that just a fancy word for feeling bummed out?”, which I am sure makes you want to scream. That is where I come in!
As the parent of a child/teen that struggles with their wounded selves, you have tried everything. The exhaustive interventions that you have tried are going nowhere fast. Throwing in the towel is all that you have left. Your marriage is more daunting than it is invigorating and you keep hitting a wall with connecting to one another. Depression has you stuck in quicksand and the struggle is consuming you. Anxiety has its grip on you and it is controlling your life. You find yourself asking what more can you do? You feel all alone in your struggles and are having more moments of frustration than joy. Asking for help is hard.
