I help individuals and married and cohabitating couples deal with conflict, anxiety, anger and adjustment problems in their relationships.
I became a therapist because of many different reasons but the most uncomplicated reason is - I love helping, challenging, being in relationship with and motivating people. I have numerous skills and abilities in meeting people where they are at and helping them move forward toward health and happiness. I have a very direct and focused energy which I use to help my clients achieve their goals.

At any age, we may face challenges of trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, and addiction. Though it can be challenging, I help people of all ages uncover their resiliencies and create a better future for themselves. The modalities I prefer are strength-based and solution-focused. I bring compassion, nonjudgmental support, and collaboration, to help clients facilitate positive changes in their lives.

I have worked extensively with adults, teens and families across a range of clinical concerns, from symptoms of anxiety or depression, to deeper concerns around motivation, identity, meaning and purpose.
People often seek out the help of a psychologist, coach or consultant in order to improve in some way. Whether this means at an emotional/social/behavioral level or in a performance-related domain, I take the same basic approach: help you, the client, understand what it is you most need or want, and then work with you to get you there. My general mission as a professional is to help others - adults, teens and couples - grow and develop in increasingly gratifying and successful ways. My office is located in Spokane, but services are provided statewide.

I am not your conventional psychotherapist. My journey into the world of mental health is uniquely shaped by my background as a ski journalist and lived experiences of grief, loss, tragedy, and trauma. Driven by a desire to bridge my passion for storytelling with holistic healing, I use my sincere interest in the human experience in the therapy setting to treat adults, couples, and families living with shame, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, addiction, and life transitions and questions. As the Sufi poet Rumi once wrote, “The cure for pain is in the pain.”

Over the last 20 years, I have developed a specific and coherent approach to addressing anxiety, depression, and life stress.
The opening of Dante's Inferno reads "Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a forest dark, for the straightforward pathway had been lost." This story of a person's journey through hell became a classic because all of us have found, at one time or another, that the straight path in our lives has been lost, and that we are alone in a dark forest. Do you feel lost? When we look a little closer, we begin to understand that most of the darkness around us is self-created. That forest was cultivated with the seeds of our past experience.

I work to improve the lives of individuals to cope with life's challenges within trauma, grief and loss, behavioral issues, career, mood disorders, multi-cultural and transitions counseling, difficulties with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, stress, depression/anxiety, gender and sexual identity issues and personal growth.
I would like to take this opportunity to share my process of therapy, as a blended view that embraces the whole person’s, body, mind, spirit and emotions. I place value upon the healing relationship that looks beyond simply treating a disease or disorder. A philosophy that views each person is whole but may need additional support to understand the total person. It is my philosophy that optimal health and mental wellness are connected to all areas of your life. I believe the client is always the expert on their own story and to have a respectful, informed and kind partnership that honors their own personal experiences.

Anxiety, depression, marital stress, family difficulties, and countless other obstacles can get in your way of flourishing.
Welcome! My name is Conner. I am passionate about stories, life being the greatest of them all. Sometimes along the way you feel stuck, trapped in a world that feels exhausting, confusing, even unbearable. These feelings may be new to you, whereby you find yourself in uncharted territory at a critical moment in time, unsure of what to do. Or perhaps you have found yourself in this position previously, wondering why these feelings keep resurfacing. But the best part about this story of life is that what happens next has yet to be written.

Hi there! I specialize in helping people navigate the dark difficult edges of life. Darkness might express itself as depression, anxiety, persistent grief, a sense of isolation, suicidal thoughts, a feeling of being stuck, or... a whole mess of things unique to you. In therapy, we work together to build a container that can hold the inevitable fear that comes with exploring dark edges, and the rejected, heavy parts of ourselves that seem to keep getting in our way. It turns out, witnessing and caring for these troubled parts of ourselves, opens up possibility for deep joy, curiosity, emotional courage and life shifting compassion.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
