With warmth and empathy I offer a safe place where you can be transparent, a place where you can set down fears of being judged and freely explore the things that may be holding you back.
We are born into lives that are not our choosing. Our parents, circumstances, and impactful events can define us and become the narrative of our lives. You may have reached a place where you would like to examine this, to decide who and how you want to be in the world, to align your values, interests and passions with how you live each day. Coping skills developed at a young age may no longer be serving you, and it may be time to build new skills to support your growth and wellbeing. Together we can explore how you got here, and develop a pathway to connect with your true self.

When I meet a client, I listen to and learn from them. I recognize the client's uniqueness and aim to work together to address his/her specific goals and needs. If helpful and relevant to the client, we can work together to see where they "fit" in with their family, the community and the larger society. We create and collaborate on a treatment plan that best meets the client's goals. And we can examine those goals: are the the client's goals or expectations of others?

I believe in bringing our unique selves to therapy, because this is not the place to worry about filtering yourself.
Many struggle with shame, envy, and the “what ifs” that cause stress in our day to day lives. We feel pressure from the internet to “have more, be more, do more.” We can dismantle those beliefs, build ourselves back up, and be kinder to ourselves. I do my best work with men, individuals, and couples looking for a direct, "down to earth" style that helps create a comfortable space to discuss your therapy goals. My couples work includes learning to regulate emotions, respond with compassion, and understand your partner's needs and desires.

If you’re carrying old patterns, feeling disconnected from your emotions, or relying on self-sufficiency to get by, you don’t have to do it alone. I help adults in general and LGBTQIA+ adults in particular explore the deeper stories shaping their reactions and relationships. Together, we create space for insight and new possibilities.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
