Sometimes it can be hard to find the answer or make a change on your own. Or perhaps it feels like there's no one there to listen to you. Therapy is a space for you to reflect upon all aspects of yourself and your life. Reflecting in this way with a trained professional can help you better understand yourself. With that new understanding, therapy can support you in making informed choices about your life. Perhaps you're currently in crisis, or perhaps not. I firmly believe that you don’t need to be in crisis to come to therapy. It’s enough that something doesn’t feel right, or that you’d simply like to know yourself better.

We often tell our lives as stories in order to make meaning out of them. Sometimes our own story seems to disrupt due to an immediate crisis or issues to do with our past that cause us distress. Perhaps a combination of both. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental and gentle space for you to tell your story. Together we can look at is causing you pain, where it’s roots may be and what impact it is having on your day-to-day life. Most importantly work toward finding a way through the struggles you may be experiencing.

I am a child-centred play therapist and work with children aged 4 to 12 years old. Play therapy is a therapeutic approach which allows the child to process their emotions, trauma and relationship dynamics through play, the child's natural form of communication. Play therapy helps children process traumatic events and relationships, gain more self-esteem and self-acceptance, and lessens anxiety and depression. As a play therapist I provide a safe and containing setting by building a trusting, therapeutic relationship with the child. I am registered with BAPT and follow their code of ethics.

I provide a one-to-one, face-to-face counselling and personal development service. The setting is a safe, comfortable, quiet and confidential place where you can explore and gain a deeper understanding of the issues you bring to counselling. I will support you in finding your own solutions to the problems that prevent you from leading a satisfying and resourceful life. My way of working recognises the similarities and differences between people, because no two people will react to the same situation in the same way. I use an integrative approach, drawing from psychodynamic, person-centred and trans-cultural theories of counselling.

I am a Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist, working with individuals and couples. Experiencing an issue with sex or sexuality can be enormously upsetting and damaging to self esteem. Often relationships suffer as a result. Perhaps you have lived with a sexual issue or question about your sexuality for a while and have decided that now is the time to understand it better and work towards a goal. You may be in a relationship where the same argument or sequence plays out, or perhaps you find forming and maintaining relationships difficult and want to understand this better.

Maybe it feels daunting thinking about therapy, maybe there's an overwhelming amount of choice of therapists and really how do you choose? Maybe you're questioning the whole thing. I understand, I've had those questions myself. From my experience what's important is that you find someone you can feel safe and comfortable with. I can't know if that will be me but we can start with a short video call and see how it feels. In a warm, real, relationship I will carefully listen, at times gently challenge and always deeply care, as you start to share the things you feel you need or want to, at your pace.

Sometimes we struggle with things in our lives that we don't feel we can (or want to) talk to those closest to us about. Sometimes we feel lost, ashamed or want to gain more insight into something. This is where seeing a therapist can help you.

I am aware of the difficulty in making the decision to seek counselling and how overwhelming the process of finding the right counsellor can be. It can be a lonely journey when you are feeling overwhelmed, Counselling provides clients with the opportunity of having someone to explore and help to make sense of their emotions and thoughts. When we struggle with low self concept and shame, we may become stuck due to fear of being exposed (vulnerability). If this is not explored and understood its roots then it could manifest into other emotional issues such as anxiety and depression. Therapy can teach you helpful/healthy coping tools.

My practice is informed and inspired by the belief that we are shaped by our historic context and circumstance, which influences the way we show up for ourselves and to the world. By exploring our past experiences, imprints and coping mechanisms, we are able to understand how they may help or limit us in our growth, relationships and in work. I hope to provide a therapeutic relationship, where collaboratively we can explore how these patterns serves or hurt us, and with greater awareness and compassion, it can provide relief from pain and open up possibilities to a life that is more full and enriching.

Life can throw many challenges at us and affect us in many different ways. These might include being troubled by painful memories from difficult past experiences, struggling in relationships, caught in cycles of worry and anxiety or low mood, or constantly feeling not good enough. These experiences can make it feel difficult to cope and might leave you feeling unmotivated, unfulfilled, or like you are living a life directed by worry and fear rather than your values. I am here to provide a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space to explore these difficulties and support you to navigate a way out of them.

Are you feeling low, lost or anxious? Are you looking for a supportive therapist who will listen to you and help you make sense of what’s going on in your life? I work with people who have anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues and depression, among other difficulties. Sometimes these emerged after a loss or setback, or maybe they are feelings that have always been there and now is the time to tackle them. Perhaps it's hard to even say why, or why now. Whichever it is, I’ll support you, listen to you, and help you understand what’s going on right now, how it relates to the past, and how you can make changes for the future.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
