Currently accepting new clients. Life is full of discouraging problems and it's easy to get overwhelmed, ignore the situation, pretend we don't need to change, or quit in frustration. We might hide who we are from others thinking we are unlovable or push others away so they can't see who we are. Counselling focuses on examining our self, our ways of navigating the world and situations, and trying to make changes that let us live happier, more authentically, and more free.

Have you recently been experiencing anxiety or depression and need some support around that? I love working with my clients around exploring their boundaries and learning to establish, maintain, and reinforce their boundaries while respecting those of others. Have you given birth or expanded your family and are struggling to navigate all the new feelings, thoughts and experiences? Are you in or leaving an abusive relationship and need somewhere safe to share and explore? Perhaps you are experiencing grief or loss in your life currently and are needing some help navigating the complexity of emotions.

I believe that each person has the ability to improve their life; to become closer to who they want to be. No problem is too difficult to face with the right kind of support. Many people are suffering on their own or feeling stuck in patterns that keep them from having the life they want. Counselling can change this.

“Life is suffering”, the Buddha famously said, and now, more than ever, this seems to be true. But it doesn’t have to be this way, at least not all of the time. While I may never know the full extent of your situation, I can be sure of two things – you have suffered and a part of you believes it is possible for things to be better. I am here to assist you on your journey to better, however that may look for you.

Sometimes we can name it clearly. Other times we know what happened wasn't okay, but we don't know how to name it, or feel some doubt or confusion due to messages we've been told about abuse and violence. Abuse from a recent or past partner, and other forms of gender-based violence including dating violence sexual assault, are experiences that many of us have faced. Dominant discourses and the impacts of violence can make it challenging to share our stories and get the support we deserve. When our experiences are also influenced by other experiences of oppression we face greater challenges feeling heard, understood, and supported.

Life is a journey in which we all encounter unexpected twists and turns, detours and obstacles... The journey can also be full of possibility, discovery and joy. Counselling can provide support and strategies to help you navigate the challenges with greater ease, and enhance the positive experiences with a sense of meaning and purpose. My goal in counselling is to foster an environment in which you may achieve greater understanding and compassion for yourself, find ways to ease distress, and create more clarity, peace and stability in your life.

These are unique and challenging times. We are faced with very real stressors that can trigger lots of anxiety. What is happening right now can also activate past trauma. Financial concerns, health concerns, worrying about loved ones, having to adjust to living with each other...it can bring out the best and the worst of us. If you have already been struggling with disconnect, unresolved conflict and hurt, or unhealthy ways of coping, now is the time to reach out. I have a very compassionate yet practical approach and focus on providing you with tools that will enable you to make positive life and love changes

When you have suffered a lot of disappointment, heartache and other challenging life experiences, it is normal to feel lonely, disconnected, misunderstood, and empty. You may frequently find yourself in toxic relationships, feel like you are not good enough, are unsure who you are as a person, and/or have an intense longing for something more in your life. You want to feel more at peace with yourself, feel confident in your ability to handle and move on from challenging situations, have happy relationships, and feel more content with yourself and your life. I can help you with these issues in our counselling sessions together.

My clients come from diverse backgrounds. People who have gone through a major life transition (trauma, loss, career change, breakup, migration, health diagnosis) may need professional support. There may be concerns around career/family and how to show up for life while feeling anxious, burnt out or feeling chronic low mood. Some clients see me for relationship struggles, or find it hard to trust their partner and/or feel insecure in relationships. Clients also see me for perfectionism, sleep issues, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, sports performance, enhanced self confidence, body image, self worth and self esteem.

Do you hear your inner critic telling you that you’re not good enough? Does it warn you of all the ways you’ll screw up, fail, or let people down? Does it hold you back in life or make you feel ashamed, guilty, anxious, depressed, or alone? Does it sound like a familiar voice, maybe someone from your past? If your answer is yes, let’s connect. I work to form an empathic relationship with clients and understand what hurts through their eyes. I specialize in helping people get out of stuck emotions, quiet inner critics, and heal the hurt that no one sees.

How can I find a therapist in V5A?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
