Accepting clients - Do you overthink and judge everything you say? Are you reliving past or future events and feel stuck in worry and stress? Or, are you wanting to break family cycles and heal patterns? I support women as they reclaim their lives before the hurt — before the assault, eating disorder, or toxic relationship. Before anxiety and fear settled in. For many of my clients, unsupportive relationships have been their norm, and they identify with having absent, abusive, or emotionally unavailable parents and partners. Therapy can help you get to know yourself better, regain a sense of self and agency, and heal from the past.

70 years of life experience has been my best teacher (even though I have all the necessary professional training.) I have experienced loss when 2 spouses passed away from disease. I have won my own battles with cancer and addiction. I have raised 4 children, 2 step children (some with special needs) and now enjoy 12 grandchildren. I treat anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and anger by addressing the root of the problem - trauma. I am trained in EMDR, which is useful in healing PTSD (both childhood and adult trauma). Within minutes (not months) the pain of trauma can be permanently erased and people are less triggered in life.

Decipher Counselling Art Therapy Studio offers creative, justice-oriented therapy for people dealing with experiences of invalidation, including any and all underrepresented communities. This may include processing trauma, navigating identities, life transitions, and power differences. We aim to create a space where people of all intersectionalities can feel like they belong. To feel like they can be themselves in their most unique ways. Where their stories will be heard and held. We work to decolonize therapy in our therapy practice and personally around our identities.

Hello, I am Autumn! I work largely with play, expressive and nature based therapy. I work with children, teens, and adults. Play is how children communicate so there is no better way to work with the concerns that are close at heart then through play for little ones. Don't think that play is only for kids though - expressive therapy like painting, clay, movement, and other creative ways of being can help even those of us that doubt we are "artistic" reach a deeper level of self-connection and authenticity. Nature is a wonderful way to feel connection to something bigger than us while increasing our grounding and mindfulness skills.

If you’re a woman experiencing anxiety and/or depression who often engages in negative self-talk, my open and compassionate way of working with body and mind may be right for you. Your gloom/dread may come from traumatic experiences, and/or it may arise from good experiences that did not happen. The empathy that wasn't demonstrated, a safety that wasn't provided, grief that wasn't attended; developmental experience influences your ability to show up as the person you want to be. Missing out on good experiences, or bearing traumatic experience, can affect your sense of security, it does not, however, stop you from earning security.

My deepest privilege is to come alongside you, listen as you share your story, and begin to help understand what happened to you. Past experiences shape some of how you view and process life experiences today. Your past informs your present. I can help you explore those experiences, how they have affected you in the past and now in your current relationships, behaviour or thought patterns, and even how you perceive yourself, your kids, or your partner. Exploring some of these things together may open the door to curiosity, self-compassion, and also bring meaning and healing to your life. You will begin to notice you feel more "you".

Ever feel like saying F#CK My Life? I sure do, especially with therapy being the second toughest thing in the world to sell to men! Not only do you have to admit you need help, which is hard enough for most guys, but then there's the ridiculous social stigma that getting therapy is admitting weakness instead of strength. To add insult to injury therapy can be time consuming, results aren't guaranteed and it isn't cheap either. So why bother? Because regret is a much worse feeling than failure. Those who become old and regret not taking leaps of faith now realize it is too late to fulfill their purpose. So, let's get started.

Sometimes life events make us feel as if we are inside a tornado or stuck in a fog. I’ve been there myself, I know how it feels. It caused me to lose touch with my true self and cross paths with anxiety & depression decades ago. Finding my way back to myself was so impactful that I left a solid career in corporate to become a Registered Counsellor. If you find yourself lost in that fog battling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, childhood trauma, low self-esteem, relationships or disconnected from your true self, I am here to help you clear the way so you can reclaim your true self again, mind, body & soul. :)

Whether you've just had a significant life event and you need support to get through it, you're having unkind thoughts about yourself or others and what to work through them, or you are just generally feeling unwell and want to regain balance, using therapy allows someone to walk with you on that journey. You may have days where you feel low, nervous, unmotivated, or lost. Those can get in the way of your enjoyment, your relationships, or you just being at your best.

How can I find a therapist in British Columbia?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
