I work virtually with many individuals who are facing struggles with their day to day life including grief, stress, anxiety, depression and major life transitions. If there is an identified issue that you would like to work through we can tackle that together, though sometimes there is just a deep desire for life to be easier and to remove the obstacles that we all can find in our way from being truly happy and fully expressed. Whether there are specific concerns or general worries, I can help identify what stands in your way and together we can create a plan to lead you to your most fully expressed version of yourself.

It is an honour to work with people who have the courage to ask for help with their most profound and private struggles. My education opened my mind to the systems of injustice that have influenced my life, and also to the systems that do not affect me because of my privilege as a white, settler, cisgender person. I have experienced how change and trauma can shape our sense of self and our worldview, and I have witnessed how injustice can compound suffering. I know some of the wide range of joys and sorrows that life brings, and I have experienced the transformative power of therapy both as a client and as a therapist.

I approach counselling from a lens that is grounded in the continued practice of anti-racism, disability justice, queer theory, sex positivity, and that recognizes the systemic violence that has, and continues to, harm us and impact our experiences in the world, and inside ourselves. The main niche of folks that I have had the honour of working with over the years have been queer and trans folks, sex workers, disabled folks, non-traditional relationship networks, kink and bdsm communities, BIPOC folks, folks navigating complex trauma, and those living at the intersections of many of these identities.

I practice from a relational, attachment, and trauma-informed lens. I am interested in the complex ways that formative childhood experiences set the tone for how we view and participate in the world and how early childhood relationships inform how we engage with others today, be it consciously or subconsciously. I enjoy working with people who would like to focus on relationships, difficult familial dynamics, childhood trauma, grief and loss, parenting, emotional regulation, self-esteem and self-worth.

I have been privileged to support thousands of people of all backgrounds and ages to find their hope back despite life challenges.

Seeking support is sign of courageousness and strength. When we face challenging times, difficult emotions can leave us feeling alone and overwhelmed. Ideally, such times are opportunities to deepen our understanding of ourselves and of the lessons that have been presented to us. This path is a process of expressing our feelings, exploring our inner lives, and discovering our true and authentic natures. I believe that our well-being is rooted within us, although finding it can be complex therefore making growth difficult to experience.

Relationships can give us purpose and joy, but they can also be so complicated. This can be especially true when we put extra care into tending and repairing relationships, but are left feeling lonely and frustrated. You may be craving care, acceptance, and belonging. Instead, you may be feeling stuck, discouraged, overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and questioning if things will ever be different. Whether you’re feeling this way in your romantic, friendship, parenting, or family relationships, please know that you’re not alone, and that counselling can help.

How can I find a therapist in V5K?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
