My clients are often in transition—facing addiction, loss, or a major life shift. They’ve held things together for everyone else but now feel disconnected or unsure who they are. They want relief from anxiety and patterns that keep them stuck, and long to feel calm, clear, and real again. Together we create space to steady the nervous system, heal trauma, and rebuild trust in self and relationships.

EMDR therapist with evening availability. Are you struggling with anxiety, low mood, anger, relationship conflict, or unhealthy coping patterns that leave you feeling overwhelmed or disconnected? Perhaps you find yourself stuck in cycles of emotional reactivity, avoidance, substance use, overeating, self-criticism, or difficulty communicating with the people you care about most. These patterns often develop as ways of coping with stress, pain, or past experiences—but over time, they can begin to impact our relationships, sense of self, and overall well-being.

Maybe it's your own drinking. Maybe it's your partner's. Maybe you grew up in a house where you learned to read the room before you took your coat off. Addiction pulls in everyone around it, and the people standing closest to it often go the longest without any support of their own. I'm Dave. If it's your own use, whether that's alcohol, gambling, or another pattern that has taken up more room than you planned, I support goals that fit you: cutting back, taking a break, or stopping altogether. We look at what's actually driving it and build practical, shame-free ways to handle urges.

Many of my clients are the people others rely on - healthcare professionals, caregivers, and adults who have spent years putting everyone else first. They come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, or carrying the lasting effects of trauma, anxiety, addition, or difficult life experiences. They want more than coping strategies; they want to understand themselves, heal at a deeper level, and create lasting change.

Free 20-minute phone consult available. Hi, I’m Dave. I work with people who feel stuck or conflicted about change, often around alcohol, substance use, sexual behaviour, or other areas of life. You might look like you’re holding it together on the outside, but inside, things feel heavier than they should. Maybe you've been telling yourself you'll deal with it tomorrow, or that it’s not bad enough to need help. Many people I work with aren’t sure what the “right” answer is, but they know something isn’t working anymore. I offer a practical, shame-free space to help you sort through it and move forward.

Hello. Many people are negatively affected by anxiety and depression. However it's sometimes difficult to figure out why. Similarly many people find relationships difficult and complicated. Both psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) offer quick, effective ways to cut through symptoms and understand what is underlying our challenges. My work often employs short-term techniques, exploring thoughts and feelings around relationships, self-esteem or historical trauma, using a focussed and directed, but nurturing approach. I also offer long-term therapy when we need extra time to explore more complex issues.

Alcohol Use Counsellors
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
