Since much of the world has taught us that asking for assistance demonstrates weakness, it can be difficult to admit to ourselves that we cannot do something alone. For this reason, many people suffer in silence, which can often make things worse. If this sounds like you, I am here to let you know that asking for help may be the bravest thing you can do, and therefore, I must commend you for your strength and effort in taking this first step.

I work with individuals seeking guidance, emotional support, mental clarity, harmony in mind and body. Whether experiencing relationship conflict, stress, grief, trauma or seeking new perspectives and fresh solutions on your life journey, the essence of my approach is to provide a safe, supportive base where you can explore, understand, and heal issues causing discomfort and imbalance in your life. Physical limitations, social discomfort, and the challenge of living in a fast-paced changing world all contribute to "dis-ease" in the body/mind. This can present itself in the form of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, insomnia, eating disorders, addiction and more.

If working through life's challenges feels more overwhelming than staying stuck in your current situation, I would like to have the opportunity to help you navigate your way to a life worth living. Often negative thinking patterns and behaviours can influence our sense of self and impact on our family, work and school life. My goal in art psychotherapy is to assist you in discovering your potential while finding your internal voice. A client centered, anti-oppressive approach provides a safe and confidential environment to explore what matters most to you.

Tara Kanerva
MA, Therapy, Hypno, NLP, Coach
I operate from a strength based approach, using a powerful combination of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) hypnosis and Time Line Therapy®. I work in person and online. We will achieve success by uncovering the unconscious patterns and programming that is keeping you stuck! We work where behaviour, emotions and reactions are actually coming from. Huge shifts happen fast, even when they have been suffering for years. There is a way to heal that is easier and simpler - without talking about all the content, and reliving the pain. Free Consults available online and I will work on a sliding scale in these tough times.

I am the owner and operator of Margarita Rabinovich & Associates. I believe that most of us decide to seek help through psychotherapy when we have painful feelings or destructive impulses that cause difficulties in our lives and the lives of others we care for or love. Most individuals are affected by periods of discouragement and hopelessness, feeling disconnected, numb, distressed, unable to function or anxious. You are not alone. Many mental health disorders can be episodic and often is a response to a way of life that does not align with our more profound sense of meaning and authenticity or to unexamined early traumas.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
