I work with children from 3 to 18 as well as adults, couples and families with issues such as trauma histories, anxiety, depression, school issues, self-esteem issues, anger management, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, divorce issues, family conflict and parenting. My goal is to provide a safe space where children and adults can feel free to express themselves and in that process develop self-awareness and a skill set to improve relationships with themselves and with others. I do this in a non-judgmental, compassionate and caring way to promote healing and transformation.

You have a vision for your life, and despite your best efforts it hasn't yet materialized. You may want more fulfilling relationships, to feel worthy, to feel calmer in your mind and emotions, to focus more on the positive aspects of your life or to make decisions more easily. You may find that long ago or recent experiences continue to bother you even though you think they shouldn't. Maybe you didn't receive the care you needed growing up, were sexually assaulted, experienced medical trauma, or have experienced a loss. You want to heal, grow, and thrive. You may be worried it won't help and you are ready to try therapy.

I help children, adolescents, and teens who are having difficulty managing emotions, struggling with behavior, and/or going through changes in the home. I believe that children can not only communicate issues through play but also learn new skills the best when play therapy techniques are intertwined within their therapy experience. Many adolescents and teens benefit from a neutral sounding board that can provide support and new perspectives.

Having been on the other side of the chair, I want to you know that the healing process is in your capable hands. This is a challenge but you have everything you need to thrive already with you. Let me be there to reflect, hold space, encourage, and guide you to higher levels of awareness. Together we can create a treatment plan to support the navigation of your emotions, symptoms, communications, and the systems you are a part of. I am formerly a PreK-5 educator and I bring direct, creative, effervescent, nurturing, and bright energy to sessions.

I am a seasoned therapist and I love what I do. In fact, I am seasoned enough to retire, but I just do not want to give up this work. Instead, I scaled back my hours which lets me practice part-time with enough time left over to enrich my life though family activities and hobbies. I have a solid skill set for treating depression, anxiety, and grief.

Life tends to throw us curve balls. With all of our energy spent juggling obligations, responsibilities, and managing daily stresses, it's easy to wake up one day and realize that you just feel "stuck." Making the decision to begin therapy can be difficult, but it's the first step towards regaining control of your life. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, experiencing relationship difficulties, or just want a different perspective on whatever is holding you back, I'm here to help you navigate and overcome these challenges. Every person's situation is unique. I do not treat the therapeutic process as "one-size-fits all."

As a bereaved mother and a trained therapist, I have deep personal, as well as clinical, understanding of the difficult issues facing those grieving the deaths of loved ones. I can help you find your path toward wholeness on this dark, but sometimes beautiful, journey through grief. I've done graduate and post-graduate work in counseling through death, dying, and bereavement, worked with hospices, led groups with traumatized and bereaved people--parents, spouses, and siblings--of all ages. Your journey is unique, but know that you are not alone.

Using integrative modalities such as EMDR, yoga, mindfulness, somatic healing, play, and expressive arts, I create a nurturing space for clients to process emotions, explore the inner self, and heal at their own pace.
Hi I’m Ashley, the founder and heart of WATWC. I love working with highly ambitious young professional Black Women and Women of Color who desire to reclaim control from anxiety stemming from childhood trauma and live boldly with purpose. I’m often described by my clients as real, relatable, and culturally responsive. Let's be honest! Starting therapy can bring up so many emotions. That's why it is essential for me to infuse the therapy room with fun, laughter, and encouragement. I value gently challenging those I work with to redefine self-care and prioritize their well-being, even while balancing the many roles they fulfill.

I am a trauma-informed therapist with a background in art therapy. I believe that the primary healing component of therapy lies within the corrective emotional experience of the therapeutic relationship, and I work to bring that to each client with whom I work.

I didn’t start my life with all of these titles. I had to work hard for each one of them. Through every challenge, every stumbling block, and every failure I learned to survive in"the struggle." Having a firsthand understanding that life is not always “rainbows and sunshine", but there are storms that can knock you to your knees. I believe It is my job as a therapist to help you see the light in the midst of your darkness.

I have experience supporting adolescents & adults who are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma symptoms, and relationship challenges. I help my clients work through issues that are impacting their life and relationships. I serve as a guide as people work on shifting their view of themselves and the world through improving self-esteem, self-worth, and interpersonal dynamics. I value processing how life experiences have shaped who we are and who we are becoming. My approach is depth-based, with a focus on attachment theory.

I practice from the belief that humans are complex beings with amazing capabilities. Obstacles and challenging situations can block us from using our capabilities to their full potential, changing the ways we think, the ways that we live our lives, and the ways in which we relate to others. As a clinician, I believe that therapy can be used as a resource to for living out our potential. Everyone is capable of change, and I act as a resource for individuals in need to work through the limitations of health burdens, social injustices, relationship problems, and the other challenging issues.

Expressive Arts Therapists

What happens in expressive arts therapy?

In an expressive arts therapy session, the therapist will provide the space and materials necessary to encourage the client to express themselves creatively. These can include art supplies, musical instruments, a journal, a camera, and more. The therapist offers careful guidance throughout the creative process, often noticing and talking about psychological issues as they arise. Many clients also benefit from the mind-body connection—the physical act of making art can help them feel more grounded and present.

How long does expressive arts therapy take?

An expressive arts therapy session will typically last between 50 minutes and an hour. Group sessions may run longer. Sometimes, a client might only need one or two sessions of expressive arts therapy in conjunction with talk therapy to resolve a psychological issue. Others might find a fixed number of sessions over the course of either weeks or months to be beneficial. The duration depends on the client and their individual needs and goals for therapy.

How does expressive arts therapy help children?

Creativity is an important part of normal child development. Expressive arts therapy proves a safe outlet for child clients to learn to identify their emotions and express them in healthy ways. In expressive arts therapy, children can build their self-esteem, discover more about their personality and strengths, and feel a sense of normalcy in an otherwise chaotic world. This therapeutic approach can be particularly helpful for children with developmental disabilities, autism, ADHD, speech impairments, and other conditions.

What are the limitations of expressive arts therapy?

Sometimes individuals have physical limitations that can affect their ability to express themselves artistically in certain mediums. For example, someone with hearing problems might find it difficult to make music. Sickness and mobility issues can make some types of art physically inaccessible (e.g., sculpting, dancing, etc.). Sometimes, clients are overly skeptical and have trouble letting go and engaging with the creative process. Individuals who require a higher level of care may be better served with other types of therapy.
