I have been working as a therapist/social worker with adults, children, and families since 1993. While I have been finding my own true self through Western psychotherapy, I began my journey on a Mystical Path; studying both Western psychology and Eastern Mystical Path, experiencing them, I came to integrate these two schools, incorporating both the Western and Eastern psychotherapy into my therapeutic work. In my practice, I use mystical stories, poems, and movements, when necessary.

You don’t understand where things went so wrong. You and your partner still love each other very much, but lately, you’ve been drifting further and further apart. Communication has become strained, and you have the same stupid arguments on repeat. The conflicts have become so commonplace that you’ve begun to avoid each other just to spare yourselves from another fight. The trust you once shared is evaporating, and intimacy has gone out the window. Neither of you are ready to give up on this relationship, but you’re worried that unless something changes soon, this rift may become unrepairable. It all feels so awful.

You can't change what happened, but you can choose what happens next. Maybe you've behaved in ways you aren't proud of. These behaviors (substance use, anxiety, depression, social isolation) are ways you learned to protect yourself from pain. This is normal, and it’s okay. These unhelpful coping skills aren't protecting you anymore, they seem to be making your problems grow. You want to change your behavior to match your values, what's important to you. You want to live a life worth celebrating. I'm here to support you in moving from thinking to action.

Trauma can leave profound imprints on our lives, often manifesting as emotional or somatic pain, anxiety, or persistent feelings of being stuck in a state of fight or flight. My therapeutic practice is centered around the integration of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and animal-assisted therapy, designed to support your personal journey toward emotional well-being. EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps reprocess distressing memories, facilitating significant shifts in how you experience and understand past events.

NOTE: Currently, my practice is limited to seeing individuals on Saturdays only. I look forward helping you find more effective ways of dealing with the conflicts and changes of everyday life. If you struggle with unhealthy coping strategies such as dependency on substances/behaviors, seem to repeat the same self-defeating patterns in relationships, have difficulty managing intense, overwhelming feelings or often feel misunderstood while trying to communicate, I can help you alter underlying patterns and develop tools that lead to enduring change.

Someone like you may be drawn to my unique style of work because talk therapy isn’t delving deep enough into the painful emotions you feel, the chronic pain you hold, or the spinning thoughts that rule your life. You may crave a nourishment from your life you’ve lost touch with in the busy-ness, trapped in people pleasing, poor boundaries and unresolved old pain. You may remember you once felt vibrant and connected to yourself, and perhaps something greater. Are you ready to get back?

Each of us passes through struggles that are difficult to cope with. In working together to form a therapeutic relationship we can become healthier and more able to react more skillfully to the challenges that present themselves. My work with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families is based off a strong clinical foundation and woven together with compassion, respect and caring. By resolving some of our issues we can become balanced and find improved overall health (mentally, physically, spiritually, financially, emotionally).

As a health psychologist, I support adults and families coping with the effects of illness and injury. Whether you'd like to make changes to improve a chronic condition like diabetes, IBS, or heart disease, are struggling to adapt to a 'new normal' after a life-changing health event, or feel like symptoms are making the rest of your life take a back seat, you deserve support. Health Psychology is the practice of learning to maintain emotional resilience, reduce the impact of symptoms, and feel more in charge of your health, regardless of your diagnosis.

It takes a village...Navigating through the transitions and challenges in our lives is meant to be a collaboration with family, friends, elders, wise women and men. However, in the times of instant change and mobility, some may find themselves lost and alone, far from those they confide in and look up to. Sometimes they isolate for fear of vulnerability and the pressure to appear "to have it together". When this self-judgement and drive to be “perfect” eventally takes its toll, one can be left feeling bereft of deep connection to self and others. Finding a therapist you can trust and confide in, can help you find your way.

My focus is working with teens and adults struggling with uncomfortable emotions and unhelpful patterns in relationships. Throughout the course of our lives we rely on strategies to help us move through difficult experiences. While these strategies may have been helpful, they may no longer be working they way you intend them to. I work best with client's who feel that they are stuck in life, feeling unsatisfied in their relationships and are open to starting therapy with a fresh perspective on who they are and where they want to go. Working together, we can find new ways of relating to yourself and others.

I've spent my career as a therapist helping children, adults, and couples deal with difficult emotions, relationships, and trauma. I practice trauma informed care even when trauma isn't the focus. In my office you will find radical acceptance, compassion, and a fellow traveler on your journey. I understand that starting therapy can be difficult, especially the first time, so I take the time to build a caring relationship. Therapy wont be sterile or rushed or cookie cutter. You can expect to reduce suffering, strengthen your authentic self, challenge beliefs, foster resiliency, and create more space for curiosity and compassion.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in 93101?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
