Hello I'm Jen and I am a person-centred therapist and I have been in private practice since May 2020 where I see clients remotely. I offer person-centred therapy to both adults and children. Working as a person-centred therapist I believe the client is very much the driver of their own therapy journey and I am here to offer that safe space required to enable the client to freely explore what is going on for them at a pace which feels natural to the individual. There is no obligation to set goals as the therapy I provide is very fluid and can go in any direction as the therapy offered is all about the person and not goals or targets.

I mainly work with relationship issues - with individuals, couples or indeed any relationship dynamic. I qualified as a counsellor in 2001, specialised in couples work in 2004, and have been working with relationships since - both in the home and in business. We can work together online or in person. If you wish to work online as a couple, you just need to make sure you have good access to internet at home and a device that can clearly show both of your faces all of the time.

As a Clinical Psychologist I am passionate about working with people to address their emotional and mental health difficulties and to achieve their treatment goals. I have a particular interest in working with addictions, trauma, and anxiety disorders and as such these are my main areas of expertise. In addition to working privately, I also worked in an NHS Addictions Service until recently, predominantly with alcohol and illicit drugs, and as a result much of my work was with people with complex mental health needs.

We all get stuck, from time to time. Sometimes it feels like we cannot move forward. It can be frustrating, constraining and painful. Yet there is energy behind every blockage, and looking at it from above – as if from a bridge – can be the first step to unlocking our potential. This is what I aim to offer to my clients. My approach is creative, in that it adapts to individual needs, and culturally sensitive, as it draws on my experience of transit and change. I practise in English and Italian. Face to face and online.

Hold my hand, I can show you the way out! Have you ever felt like you can’t breathe even though there’s nothing stopping you? Have you ever felt so alone in your life even though physically you are surrounded by other people, even people dear to you? Do you feel like nobody understands what you are going through? Let me tell you something, I know exactly what that feels like because I was the one in the description above. I know how overwhelming emotions can be, how misunderstood you can feel and how disconnected you feel from yourself and other people. I see you and I hear you!

Starting personal therapy is a big decision and it makes sense to wonder where to start and which psychotherapist to choose. How would you know what’s right for you? Making the decision to tell someone about the things that bother you most is not an easy one. However, if you are here, I would guess there’s a need to talk. Whatever it is - whether it is problems in the present, memories of the past or worries about the future - I can promise you a safe and confidential space to talk about it. A journey to find out what can make things better for you is a lot easier if you’re not alone in it.

My name is Pip (She/Her), and I am a Humanistic-Gestalt therapist. I specialise in working with neurodiversity and LGBTQ+, although you don't have to identify with this to work together. I'm the type of therapist to encourage you to bring your favourite slippers, blanket or teddy and kick your feet up on the sofa in comfortable clothing while letting conversation flow. Whether you're new to counselling or looking to find a new therapist that's right for you, I work on taking out that strange clinical feeling.

Seeking therapy takes courage and finding the right therapist can be a daunting task. Perhaps you would like to make changes to your life but are unsure of where to begin? We can work together to help identify patterns and themes of your view of the world and yourself in it. We can think about how past experiences may have impacted on your ability to cope and function. With acquiring greater insight, awareness and meaning, we can work towards breaking destructive patterns and gain resources which will help you cope with difficulties and make profound changes to your life and relationships.

Would you like to talk to someone in confidence? There are times in our lives that we hesitate to share our inner thoughts and feelings, or keep our problems and painful experiences, anxieties, or worries from our friends, loved ones, and family. In times like these, it is helpful to talk things out in confidence to someone who will listen without being judgemental or critical, but will be there to offer a tentative ear with empathic understanding, with a genuine care, warmth and respect.

My aim as a CBT therapist is to help clients who may be struggling with life challenges and develop a shared formulation that is individualised, that brings awareness to and understanding how your difficulties may have developed and are being maintained. This acts as a “roadmap” for our therapeutic understanding and intervention and will be covered in the initial assessment session(s). We will agree on how many sessions to meet for (usually six to 24, depending on the duration and complexity/severity) and help you work towards your set goals and values.

How can I find a therapist in SO16?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counsellors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
