Hello and welcome, I believe that it's vital to get the right support when life isn't going so well. I also believe that all of us carry pain within and occasionally find ourselves in dark woods. Therefore, we shouldn’t feel any shame or judgment in discussing our life experiences. My journey to becoming a therapist began as a direct result of my personal therapy and how beneficial and life-changing it was for me. I am convinced that the most important factor in therapy is the trusting therapeutic relationship. Therefore I offer compassion and a non-judgemental attitude as a starting point to meet each other.

We could all do with help sometimes. I get it. Our world is imperfect and challenging and there is no way to know what life throws next. You may have experienced a loss or trauma and others around you cannot grasp its magnitude. Or you may have resorted to ways of coping that harm you and cannot break free. Or perhaps you are tired of recurrent disappointments, rejections, criticism that have affected how you feel within yourself and your relationships. Forming a genuine connection with each other in therapy will hopefully make it possible for you to work toward changes or make what you cannot change easier to bear.

Counselling is for any one that wishes for impartial advice from another person who has trained for a number of years to be well equipped to work psychodynamically with individuals. Counselling is a space where your thoughts and feelings can be shared without judgement or shame. It is a space for both discovery and growth. Client concerns are often nuanced. For some counselling is a space to better understand parts of the self that bring pain, for others it can be a space to seek validation, to be seen for whom they are, it can even be for a check-in. You don't have to present with a problem and for others it can be an ending.

I am currently offering online individual integrative therapy for adults. I believe that at times we need extra help from a supportive and qualified person to allow time to think, to be listened to, and to plan towards a better quality of life in spite of upsetting, challenging, or traumatic life experiences. As mental health difficulties often happen in the context of relationships, so too does the healing. I also believe that experiencing mental health difficulties does not mean a failure to cope, but rather that this is the brain and body’s way of letting us know that a change is needed.

I am a child-centred play therapist working with children, primarily from 4-12 years of age. I provide a safe, empathetic and accepting space for your child to explore what is troubling them. My approach is play based and primarily non-directive. However, for some children a slightly more directive approach can be helpful. Each child is unique, therefore the sessions will be tailored to your child and meeting their individual needs. A play based approach can be useful for children who may find it difficult to express how they feel into words.

It is easy to find a counsellor but perhaps more difficult to know if you have found the right one for you? Will you feel safe and comfortable? Life events and experiences can be distressing, feel overwhelming and sharing these problems can feel daunting and anxiety provoking. I am an accredited, experienced psychodynamically trained psychotherapist/counsellor with some additional CBT training, that could offer you a confidential and non judgemental setting where we can work through any personal or relationship issues. You may be considering a short term focused therapy or some longer term psychoanalytic therapy?

Prior to my psychotherapy training I worked in banking in the City for more than twenty years. I have experienced at first hand the challenges that working long hours can present including with respect to mental and physical health and general work/life balance. My perspective on health is holistic, recognising the interdependence of physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. My own routine includes a daily meditation practice as well as regular cold immersion and I am a qualified Personal Trainer completing a course in Nutrition for Weight Management and Athletic Performance as part of my training.

People can sometimes think of therapy as a sign of weakness, when really it’s a sign of courage and strength. Therapy means not having to face your issues alone. It also offers the opportunity for exploration and insight, empowering you to understand yourself better and make long-lasting change. I provide a warm, safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can come as you are, and together we can think about and make sense of whatever’s troubling you. I work with a range of issues including: anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, cultural difficulties, compulsive behaviours, bereavement and self-harm.

Sometimes life can hurl difficulties our way and leaving us feeling conflicted, confused and depleted and at other times our thoughts and feelings may seem out of balance to the event that triggered them or do not seem to begin from anything specific at all. I work with you in a confidential space, where you can speak freely about what is troubling you, providing you with support and security, such that you no longer have to struggle on by yourself. My areas of expertise lie in treating anxiety, depression, traumata, loss and fertility concerns.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
