My name is Brian A. Johnson, and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I have practiced my craft for thirty-five years. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADD, and ADHD diagnoses.

I am a Chicago native, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, and Art Therapist. I strive to help my clients be better able to cope with all of life’s challenges. The past few years have highlighted the importance of connection during difficult times that can be overwhelming, anxiety provoking and even lonely. I specialize in supporting people going through transitions such as new careers, parenting support, relationship changes, loved one's illness or their own serious illness. Through my experience in a university counseling center, public schools and a pediatric hospital, I have helped many individuals and families navigate through various changes.

There comes a time in all of our lives where we need the compassion and support of a therapist that truly is present and cares. I have been working as a therapist for fifteen years. I have experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, managed treatment programs and provided supervision to other clinicians in the field. I have worked with individuals facing a variety of issues including substance dependency, depression, anxiety, chronic mental illness, family and marriage issues. My area of specialty includes working with women and men who suffer from depression, anxiety, PSTD as a result of a medical conditions such as cancer; children/ adolescents with depression and anxiety, emotional regulation and behavioral/conduct challenges, and ADHD.

Do you live with anxiety and have difficulty trusting yourself? I work with grief and loss, terminal and chronic illness, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and co-dependency. I have extensive experience with clients who have experienced trauma. I also enjoying working with clients who have emotional obstacles in the way of reaching personal goals.I have had years of experience in working with clients with chronic illness such as cancer, diabetes or other medical issues, both children and adults. I have also worked with clients experiencing anxiety or depression. I use multiple treatment modalities depending on the client need.I prefer in office visits but I can do teletherapy if needed.

In addition to treating children, adolescents and adults with depression and anxiety, I have extensive training and experience in play therapy, particularly with children who have witnessed or directly experienced trauma (including childhood sexual abuse, parental murder, parental suicide, and child pornography), and chronic illness including childhood cancer and diabetes. I am developing an expertise with children who express gender variance. I enjoy working with women around issues of stress and life balance. I am passionate about therapy and supervision work with other therapists who are experiencing compassion fatigue.

No client is an island but a connected member of a family, so I often practice therapy with parents or spouses, and siblings. My style is practical, focusing on solutions. I am creative and find it essential to evaluate each client’s unique needs in the therapy office. For example, I often use hands-on therapy, such as making art or playing, to help with expression and focus. Parenting does not come with instructions. It is mysterious. But, the smallest successes can produce a profound sense of accomplishment. Helping parents find their way through counseling and walking along side of you through that journey is my mission.

I work most effectively with those who may be facing a life transition (occupational, personal relationship, emotional) or a health challenge. For 10 years I was the Director of Psychosocial Oncology at Rush University Medical Center focusing on the emotional aspects of being diagnosed, undergoing treatment and post treatment for cancer. I worked both with patients and family members who were interested in learning how to cope more adaptively with the stressors in their lives. I continue to work with individuals and family members who are struggling to cope with a medical diagnosis.

Dr. Feuer is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the Director of Health Psychology at IPD/DMG. She completed the majority of her clinical training in medical hospitals and outpatient settings. She additionally works as an adjunct faculty member for the PsyD Clinical Psychology program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Feuer’s areas of expertise include adults (18+) living with chronic medical illnesses, and has particular experience with clients diagnosed with cancer, cardiovascular, and transplant-related diagnoses. She also has experience working with caregivers of individuals living with chronic illness.

I view therapy as a collaborative process where we work together to achieve the wellness goals you set for yourself. I work with individuals and couples who are faced with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief and loss and other life stage challenges. I have over 16 years experience, specializing in oncology care, and have worked with patients and caregivers at every stage of the cancer journey. I have good understanding of the impact of systemic oppression and marginalization on individuals and I carry out my work with empathy and compassion.

My approach to therapy is centered on the belief that everyone has inherent strengths and wisdom. Working together in our sessions, we will explore a path to meaningful insights into your life.
