My name is Binta, and I am a black Muslim therapist. As the daughter of Senegalese immigrants, I understand the challenges that come with being a first- and second-generation American, particularly when it comes to navigating the waters of gender identity, sexuality, class, and religion. Regardless of your identities, the center of my work lies in the co-creation of a collaborative therapeutic relationship with each client to support and empower each of them to grow and realize their potential. Through a trauma-informed and values-based lens, I believe that therapy can be a powerful tool in the face of life’s challenges.

I am passionate about working with individuals, couples, and families who are seeking greater self understanding, meaning, and connection in their lives. My hope is to build a relationship with you that is personal, genuine, and centers your needs and goals; whether that is related to stressors and worries, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and more. This foundation can allow us to recognize what patterns, cycles, and blocks you might be facing, what change can look like going forward, and how to achieve that.

'Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.' Along with happiness and opportunity life inevitably brings challenge, change, confusion, loss, stress and disappointment. At these times we can benefit from a supportive environment and through therapy we can learn how to take these experiences and use them as an opportunity for growth. I believe each person's task in life is to become an increasingly better person. To help you do this, I provide input to assist you in identifying and overcoming your barriers to enjoying a fulfilling life.

I am a LCSW and have a passion for supporting individuals and families through significant life adjustments that affect our social-emotional well-being: parenting, supporting children and adolescents with anxiety and depression, navigating family or spousal relationship issues, and handling career stressors are at the forefront of my experience. I am most energized by learning about and equipping others with the tools necessary to develop and better themselves. Everyone’s story is different, and everyone’s needs are unique.

Many of us have times in our lives when we feel stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, discouraged, or in despair. I believe therapy can be a helpful process for navigating these experiences, allowing us to achieve a greater sense of peace in our lives and helping us to reach a more holistic state of wellness. I think each one of us possesses an inner wisdom which can guide us closer to the life we imagine for ourselves, but sometimes this knowledge can become clouded by personal distress or external difficulties.

Couples therapy has been found to be least effective of all therapies, thus it is important for clients to seek out therapists who are versed in the latest research on couples and marital therapy. The unique couples approach I co-created with my wife, called the Couples Synergy model, has helped thousands of couples internationally for over 25 years.

I believe that forming authentic and compassionate relationships is essential to personal healing and aim to generate a space where you feel validated and empowered in your mental health journey. I care deeply about co-creating a safe, nonjudgmental therapeutic space where we can examine how the systems and institutions that we operate in affect our mental and physical wellbeing. The foundation of my therapeutic practice is person centered, strengths based, trauma informed, and queer affirming. I prioritize using an anti-oppressive, feminist, systems approach to therapy that recognizes and challenges barriers to mental healthcare.
