Michael Rucker is a clinically trained marriage and family therapist and has been in practice for over a decade in Charleston, WV and Morgantown, WV. He has worked with a broad population of clients, including individuals, couples, families, children, teenagers, and groups. His passion and life experiences has led to an interest and specialization with a myriad of topic areas that he excels with, including but not limited to infidelity, infertility, mood disorders (depression and anxiety), trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, learning disabilities, addiction, marital issues, and divorce adjustment.

I see adults and children ages 3 and up. I am trained in TF-CBT, PCIT, and EMDR. I also see children with behavioral concerns and I am a dedicated trauma therapist with a passion for helping individuals heal from past experiences and find inner strength. My main modality of treatment is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful therapy approach that facilitates the processing of traumatic memories and promotes emotional healing. I work predominantly with adults ages 21-81. About 20% of my practice consists of families or couples. Common themes for therapy are family conflict, romantic relationships or lack of, chronic illness, anxiety and depression.

Contrary to what many people believe, not all adversity is bad. Through an intentional and concentrated effort, our challenges can be turned into strengths. Trauma occurs when adversity in life outweighs our available resources. As a EMDR and Trauma Certified therapist, I also incorporate techniques informed by the Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Somatic Experiencing (SE) for a bottom up approach. Hometown Healing is a family owned practice. Brynn and Jesse Simmons established the practice in 2020 to provide the community with a new approach to therapy and overall wellness.
