As a clinical psychologist with over ten years of experience in the field, I believe in an individual's ability to overcome traumatic experiences. I specialize in reproductive trauma, as well as perinatal and postpartum mood disorders. I also work with those who have suffered other types of trauma and those who are struggling with life challenges. I take into consideration the importance of an individual's early childhood experiences, including those that are preverbal. I provide a safe space in which the most painful emotions are contained and processed in order for healing to transpire.

People enter into therapy for many reasons. Often the catalyst is difficulty with a relationship, a job, or a way of coping. Anxiety and depression can provide the stimulus to seek help. When they intrude into everyday waking consciousness they are indicators that something is out of balance and needs to be addressed. Areas of particular interest within my practice are parent-child difficulties, especially the early stages of parenting; relationships; finding one's voice and inner authority; creativity; grief and loss; and the struggle to live one's own life.

Have you ever felt like you weren't being heard? Have you struggled to advocate for yourself? Have you felt like you were different from others? If you answered, yes, to any of these questions, know that you are not alone. Whether you are seeking treatment as an adult or for a child or adolescent, being able to learn skills to advocate for yourself and develop confidence in that ability can be enlightening. I can help in making speaking up less stressful by helping you understand the roots of that difficulty and help you find your voice. For minors, I can work with other providers in helping your child feel heard and understood.

When patient and therapist come together so that both of them can get to know the patient better, it can set the stage for extraordinary changes. Therapy doesn't make you, the patient, "better." Rather, it empowers you to make choices that will make your life better. I have a special passion for working with artists and creative professionals as they wrestle with fears, fantasies, depressions, manias, and all the challenges not only of making art but of making a living through art. I also have experience with — and great passion for — working with adolescents and folks struggling with addiction and recovery.

The world can be a tough place to navigate, and you don't need to feel alone while doing so! I enjoy working with persons from adolescence through adulthood who are interested in exploring and confronting various barriers and emotions that may be negatively impacting their lives. I pride myself in being able to help my clients explore their problematic behaviors and work towards achieving their own individual goals for therapy. Once gaining further insight and self-understanding, my hope for my clients is for them have self-compassion and empowerment to manage stressors while achieving their self-identified goals.

Most everyone experiences some Problems of Living during the course of his or her life. These can manifest as common psychological symptoms or as difficulties in relationship or work. By attending to the contributions that both past experiences and present circumstances make, I work to liberate effort and energy caught in these problems, making that very energy available for the pursuit of wishes and some measure of joy.

At the end of the day, most, if not all of us want to feel a sense of safety, inner peace, and freedom. Traumas at all stages of life rob us of these basic needs, and can instead make us feel anxious, depressed, and unmotivated. I will work with you to uncover the parts inside that long to feel safe, joyous, and free. While these parts may feel far away, together, we will get in touch with them.

If you have cognitive difficulties, we can develop cognitive rehabilitation and executive skills to strengthen your mental abilities to engage in home and work. I specialize in working with preteens, teens, young adults and adult individuals. Many of the feelings, wishes, and concerns that motivate our thinking and behavior are housed in the furthest corners of the psyche, away from awareness. It is no wonder that changing long-standing patterns, even if we know how beneficial this change can be, presents a challenge. As a therapist, I help explore the origin and function of the rigid internal mechanisms that inhibit personal growth. Together, we will uncover past experiences and hidden motivations, trace their impact on the present, and explore ways to move beyond the limitations.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
