You keep up with your responsibilities, but just barely. The weight of anxiety, depression or panic attacks is dragging you down. You may continue to be bothered by issues from your childhood. You see yourself as competent, professional and put together. It feels hard to be struggling. You think, "This isn't me" and "Why can't I snap out of it?" You've finally decided to seek help.

Dreams are messages from our unconscious that help us understand our deepest Self. In our work together we may decipher the language of your unconscious, as well as discover symbolism that may be more general. Dreams are not the only road to self awareness. I will provide a safe, confidential partnership to assist you in your personal work. You can free yourself from patterns that may keep you from living the rich full life you may desire. Depression and anxiety are major roadblocks to success and intimacy. Through the process of psychotherapy you may resume the natural flow of your existence.

You're wondering what's next...or maybe wondering why you keep engaging in the same patterns that continue to keep you out of connection... I believe in Relationships. Authenticity. Connection. Culturally-Responsive Care. I believe that humans flourish, heal, and grow within relationship and that primary suffering occurs from social isolation and chronic disconnection. Together we will examine those patterns, address them, so that you can be a better version of yourself to live better, but also to engage in more zestful relationships.

We can sometimes find ourselves in a position of dissatisfaction with how things are playing out for us. We feel that our life should be going differently, or that things just don't make sense anymore. When our life is in disarray we may deal with sabotaging coping skills, arguments with friends and family, and have a negative view of ourselves that controls how we view the world. Going on a healing journey is important in changing ourselves and the environment we are currently living in. Change can be difficult but it is such a rewarding experience. Therapy is a tool to assist you in becoming the best version of yourself.

PEACE. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart." This has been a goal in my life, and one I have enjoyed sharing with my clients. These days, most of my clients seek counseling because they are having trouble sleeping, are overindulging in food or alcohol, are feeling angry and irritable, or sad and low on energy, much of the time.

I seek to provide a safe, encouraging, non-judgmental, Christian atmosphere where people can heal and feel empowered. I believe that God designed people to heal and live in harmony, but sometimes life's problems and past experiences get in the way. Traumatic experiences and/or destructive attitudes, addictions, or behaviors can have a detrimental impact on all aspects of life. I use EMDR, a remarkably effective and proven treatment for quickly healing old wounds and helping people embrace their own spiritual and emotional strengths.

I am a Licensed Psychologist. I know that we often believe that we must tolerate or suffer through our current circumstances, as we are often unaware of our full personal potential, as well as the role we play in limiting our growth and progress. Peace of mind and a sense of purpose are essential elements of life that one must deliberately work towards.

Working with me delivers therapy tailored specifically to you. I accomplish this by creating a safe environment in which we can explore underlying issues, then develop achievable mental health goals. Each session is a collaboration where I approach your concerns with values of caring, curiosity, compassion, and collaboration resulting in an individualized approach specific to your needs. I find that most clients often want more than just simple coping skills, they want to understand themselves further. I have the skills to help clients explore deep-seated issues in a non-threatening manner.

I serve as a companion for those who seek to find peace and empowerment through healing and growth. Many do not realize when we are operating in an unhealthy mind/ body state because we believe the environment is the lone cause of our unease. The prevalent cause of our misery and frustration usually lies in: unresolved pain, unhealthy thought processes, and lack of confidence and power which keeps us on a maladaptive road of misery or stagnation. The good news is that you hold the key to your healing and I would be delighted to guide you in using it. Immigration Psychosocial Evaluations are also offered.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
