Therapists in Austin, TX

From our very first contact, I think you will find that I'm easy to talk to. I pride myself on being a good listener, and I believe you will experience me as warm, genuine, and supportive. I'm not one of those quiet therapists; I openly and honestly share my thoughts, questions, and perceptions. You will also find me to be (gently) challenging when you need and want to be challenged. I take your confidentiality and privacy very seriously. And, while much of what we discuss will be serious, I do have a sense of humor that I don't leave at the door.

My approach is centered around helping you create wholeness within yourself. Once your goals for therapy are established, we will focus on achieving what you envision. We will identify and help you break through old patterns that hold you back in life. As you extricate yourself from past acculturation, you will get in touch with your beautiful core Self. At the end of therapy with me, you will feel a sense of restoration and experience freedom from your emotional baggage.

My ideal client is someone who feels stuck, whether due to trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, or a significant life transition. They seek a space to explore their feelings, experiences, and stories without judgment. They may have experienced childhood wounds, workplace stress, or religious trauma and want to move forward but aren’t sure how. They aim to heal from the past and develop tools to navigate the present and future better. They’re ready to do the work, even if it feels daunting, and they value the process of understanding themselves more deeply.

As an associate, I am Supervised by Nicole Richardson, LPC-S, LMFT-S. This means that I consult weekly with a more senior therapist to ensure that I am offering my clients the best of care. Everyone loves a new baby in the family, but it is often difficult for parents to feel seen and supported during one of the most challenging times in their lives. I enjoy working with people in intimate partnerships and individuals who are new parents or trying to be new parents. There is so much to explore here: your new identity as a parent, learning how to parent, and figuring out how your relationships have changed with everyone in your life.

Feelings, emotions, communication, and relationships are fundamental aspects of life that can often feel challenging to navigate and even harder to change. With this in mind, I focus on supporting individuals, couples, and families in gaining deeper insight into themselves and their connections, helping them break old patterns and move forward in a way that aligns with their goals.

Our unique experiences account for differences in perception. I believe that the process of therapy is enhanced by exploring these differences. I have expertise in working with diverse populations - working with children and adults from different backgrounds. Treatment goals are individualized to meet unique treatment needs. Methods of treatment includes play therapy, individual therapy and family/couple's therapy. Prior to treatment, I conduct psychological assessments to assist in determining treatment needs and to develop appropriate treatment goals. Treatment can be short-term or long-term depending on individual needs

Heart Centered Therapy helps you connect to what is Essential and True within yourself. It supports you in restoring inner balance, aliveness, peace and meaning in your life and in your relationships.
The accumulations of life challenge, stress and trauma create beliefs, emotions and thoughts that become conditioned patterns. that cover up and distract us from our ability to be present. These patterns interfere with our sense of self and relationships. Authentic presence returns as the patterns of stress and trauma are integrated restoring a natural vibrancy and aliveness.

I was inspired to become a therapist through my own therapy journey during undergraduate school. At a time when I felt unsure of myself, my therapist created a calming, supportive space that helped me grow—and I knew I wanted to do the same for others. I understand how intimidating starting therapy can feel, so I focus on helping clients feel at ease and gradually settle into the process.

The world is becoming more complex as we are expected to do more with less time and energy. What if you were already coping with difficulties from a not so distant past? With my own history of self worth/doubt, health issues and being told "I don't belong here", I can vividly remember the frustration and loneliness of trying to "live your life" while feeling excluded. I draw from this to empathize and build a mutual understanding of "now" and create a path to a more authentic version of "you." We often look to the past to find origins of problems, but its equally important to dig through our history to find gems of resilience.

Are you tired of being "fine"? For many, "fine" can mean profound anxiety and unhappiness. Admitting you are not happy is an incredibly difficult act in an American culture that values strength and toughness (this can be especially true for men). Powering through emotional pain can even be seen as a virtue by some. And when the source of the unhappiness is tied to a career or long-term relationship, pride and ego can have an outsized effect on the choices we make. All these things bedeviled me as I contemplated a midlife career change. When I became open to the idea of being more than just “fine,” my perspective began to change.

My approach is to help clients become free of their emotional overreactions (especially recurring upsets) and break free from the grip of their past wounds. I also work to help identify conditioning and beliefs that my clients have inherited from their families which are NOT consistent with their own core nature. It's all about becoming more authentic. I believe that the more true to ourselves we become, without the old wounds, conditioning, and societal pressures (such as needing to be seen as a nice guy/girl or needing approval from others) then the more whole and joyful we become in our everyday lives.
