You may be experiencing anxiety, have family struggles, feeling sad or low, or finding the current economic or climate crisis overwhelming. As your person-centred counsellor I keep you, the client, at the centre of the therapeutic relationship. Counselling can be daunting, and sometimes you may not know what to expect. When you work with me, you will find a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space where you will be truly heard whether we work together face to face counselling, E-counselling or Walk & Talk. I work within the BACP Ethical Framework.

My priority is to provide a safe, non-judgemental, and confidential space for you to just ‘be’ without any expectation, so you can explore any issues or struggles that are impacting your life. You may know what these struggles are, or you may not have the words or an understanding of what is going on for you. And that is okay. You may come to therapy with a set idea of what you want to explore, or you may come to therapy with just a hunch that something isn’t right. Therapy isn’t linear but I’ll be transparent in our work together and guide you in what can be difficult but ultimately enlightening work.

Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder. Help someone's soul heal'. (Rumi). As a therapist, for me this sums up counselling in one short sentence, which is helping and facilitating the healing process. I am a fully qualified person-centred, and integrative therapist. I offer safe, non-judgemental, confidential therapy for you to explore your concerns and issues. Having a non-judgemental and supportive manner is essential in the work I do with people. I feel this allows people to be more comfortable within the process of therapy and allows them to safely explore the issues they are bringing to therapy.

Hello, I'm Amy. I recognise that life can sometimes be complex, confusing, and difficult. Our anxieties and worries can feel overwhelming, and have a real impact on our day to day experience, our relationships with others, and the way we see ourselves. Maybe you want to explore why you behave, think or feel as you do, which can lead to positive change or self-acceptance. I am a Counsellor based in Greater Manchester offering online sessions. Life can be challenging, and in places it can feel intolerable and overwhelming it can be difficult to know where to start unravelling this, how to make changes, what changes, if any, we need to make, and to try to make sense of why we feel the way that we do. This can be a very painful experience but however dark it may be today, doesn't mean tomorrow won't be lighter, counselling can offer an opportunity to be heard and to be understood. I work with clients from all backgrounds but have particular experience working with Addiction and with LGBT+ issues.

The reasons we have for seeking therapy are as varied and complex as the people seeking. You may be facing challenges in your life and relationships you wish to overcome. Or want to experience greater creativity, richer relationships, or simply have more ‘good’ days. Within our relationship, I aim to create an environment where you feel comfortable and safe to express, explore and examine your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours both past and present. I am driven to find freedom from the patterns of the past, which existed once to protect us and now may have become self-limiting and even hurtful.

When life feels overwhelming we can be surrounded by people yet feel so alone and disconnected from ourselves and the world. We may have lost sense of who we are, be burdened by guilt or shame, find it difficult to regulate our emotions, struggle with relationships or feel labelled, judged, unseen and unheard. Counselling can help. It helps us make sense of our feelings and emotions, gaining sight of what we cannot see or hear. Speaking from experience reaching out can feel daunting especially when we're at our most vulnerable and I acknowledge courage in those that do.

How can I find a therapist in Manchester?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
