Deciding to see a counsellor and making that first contact can be a huge step. It is okay to feel nervous about it. Maybe this is the first time and you don't know what to expect or how things work. Stepping into an unknown situation can be really uncomfortable. I will do everything I can to address your worries and concerns, I will explain what you can expect from me and how the process works. During the counselling session, I provide a safe place where you can share your thoughts, feelings and concerns in as much detail as you wish. You will neither be judged nor have ideas or opinions imposed upon you.

Coming to therapy can be anxiety provoking and that's why I offer a free brief consultation phone call where we can discuss your difficulties and any worries you may have. From coming to therapy you can expect: a deeper understanding of your difficulties and reasons why you may feel 'stuck'; a personalised approach which is tailored to your individual needs; an opportunity to be heard and validated; to work with a clinician who has knowledge of the most up-to-date, empirically supported therapies.

I work with individuals, couples and families that need to face a trauma, a loss, problems of anxiety, depression, fears or relational problems (such as couple conflict, emotional or behavioral problem in a child, alimentary disorder, relational closure in an adolescent). Working together will help everyone finding new energy to change and when everyone is involved in a transformation, it will be stronger and lasting. As an Italian psychotherapist I work in Italian and in English with the foreign community in UK. Sharing the experience of migration always helps to face a new life in a different country.

I am a registered Family & Systemic Psychotherapist with over 15 years experience working with individuals, families and kinship networks. Reaching out for therapy can feel really hard and people can feel quite apprehensive, particularly for the first time. The thought of speaking out loud our difficulties can feel overwhelming. But through collaborative conversations we might begin to hope to find ways to live more comfortable and and fulfilling lives.

Reaching out for therapy is a brave step but it can also be a daunting one. It can be hard to know where to turn to or who to trust. I understand this firsthand as I too sought therapy many years ago to help address my own battle with depression. Indeed it was this experience that ignited my passion for helping others struggling with their mental health and which led me to re-train as a therapist. I feel very privileged to be able to support people in their time of need and strive to do so by providing a non-judgemental, compassionate and collaborative space for talking.

Its all about you... Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a type of talking therapy that can help you make connections between what you think, what you feel and how you behave. Having this knowledge about yourself can help you to break cycles of Depression or Anxiety. The point of therapy is that you get what you need to feel able to live the life you want to. From the very first appointment, it is all about you. I will ask some key things about you, so I can make a plan with you, about how to help you. Do you have patterns of behaviour that no longer feel beneficial to you? Sometimes we think and act in certain ways that function to protect and preserve us. These have felt necessary in the past, but are no longer useful and can instead impact negatively on our life.

How's life going for you? Life can be hard to navigate on your own, sometimes you need that special time, just for you, where you can focus on your hopes for the future, share honestly about disappointments/worries/hurt without shame or judgment. We often carry pain from our past, that is unspoken and unhealed. Have you faced a lifetime of not feeling good enough, and would love to experience a better view of yourself? Facing a relationship breakdown? Maybe you're grieving a deep loss, whether a person or loss of a desire/future hope? This can be a great place to help find yourself again.

Are you struggling with addiction, anxiety, depression, important and/or difficult decisions, relationship issues, any other issue/issues? I am a BACP registered integrative therapist who is passionate about people's well-being. I believe we all have the capability and drive within us to live our best lives, however, due to various circumstances this can become diminished. I believe our past affects our present and can affect our future, in addition to often being a contributory factor to our diminished drive and capabilities.

I am a warm, friendly person and a good listener. I have a very empathic understanding and vast experiences from my own personal life. This has shaped me to be the person I am today. Things from our childhoods and certain traumas, can have us acting out behaviours that can be damaging to us. I have experience working with relationship breakdowns, alcohol addiction, depression, anxiety and self harm. I have worked with adolescents and adults of all disabilities. I've worked a great deal with confidence building and low self-esteem. I can help you recognise these behaviours and what triggers them.

How can I find a therapist in Hitchin?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
