We all struggle sometimes - life is busy and the demands can feel overwhelming, leaving us feeling stressed, exhausted, and alone in our struggle. I've faced these challenges and my experience overcoming them led me to discover the passion I had for working with people. I found fulfillment and inspiration in hearing their stories, helping them discover their hidden or forgotten strengths, and in teaching them how to use those strengths to face their challenges.

Sometimes you can go through life surrounded by people and still feel completely alone. Although suffering is a universal human experience each person’s response to it is like a kaleidoscope picture. Turn it ever so slightly and the picture shifts completely. I am committed to honouring your unique life’s picture and tailoring my approach to reflect this. I work collaboratively with you, meaning I see us working as partners together to achieve your desired goals.

Life can feel lonely and overwhelming in the midst of struggle. Shame can keep us stuck, isolated, and away from connection. If you are struggling and navigating a challenge, conflict, change, decision, or loss, there is hope and relief when we can connect with an attuned other. Your story and the adaptive ways that you have used to survive painful experiences will be honoured. Your body is wise and your emotions are powerful messengers that provide much insight. My hope for you is that through our work together, you will reconnect with your authentic Self and your intuitive wisdom.

I enjoy working with adults who want to make a change in their life. The change might be to lessen stress or anxiety, build self awareness or develop new tools in relationships. Therapy offers a rare opportunity to have life changing conversations and being a part of that is very exciting.

It takes a tremendous amount of courage to reach out to a stranger for help and support. I believe we all develop strategies for coping with pain and discomfort that often serve well in the moment but not in the long term. Or, we become overwhelmed and unable to cope with the difficult demands and circumstances life throws our way. Counselling is ultimately a conversation in a safe, non-judgmental space to help you process, validate, heal, reframe, and develop strategies to experience life in a new and more meaningful way. I am an Internal Family Systems therapist with training in EMDR.

I am not currently accepting new individual clients directly. However, I am working with new clients in group therapy and offer groups for those who have lost a loved one in a traumatic way (e.g., murder, suicide, accident, unforeseen or untimely circumstance, etc); for those struggling with chronic pain; for those wishing to process trauma; for those interested in mediation; for teachers struggling with burnout; and for students in a Master's Degree program studying counselling, or new to the field of counselling. I also supervise students who offer reduced rate sessions for $42/session.

I consider it an honour to walk alongside individuals through their journey to wellness. My hope for individuals is that they come to a greater understanding of who they are, learn effective ways of coping with life's challenges, and learn to embrace life's joys and beauty. I believe the client is the expert in their own life, and that my role as a counsellor is to be a sounding board or facilitator through the therapeutic process. I strive to develop a positive relationship with clients based on honesty, trust, empathy and authenticity, and I believe in creating a sacred, secure space for clients to feel comfortable and safe.

I believe that at the very center of all people, tucked deeply away with our fears, traumas and insecurities are the answers to that which we are seeking. When we are able to go within ourselves and really connect with the inner guidance and wisdom we have, we birth our resilience, strength, gifts and our healing. I have so much compassion and empathy for those who are in the depth of suffering and have found the courage to walk through the darkness and into the realms of deep self-discovery and I am absolutely honoured to be able to provide this sacred space for my clients as I walk alongside them in this journey to wellness.

As a therapist, I offer you a professional relationship that is deeply accepting and non-judgemental, but also objective and truthful. The issues that bring you to therapy likely started in the context of relationship, and so need to be healed in relationship. My expertise is in creating a specific type of relationship with you, that catalyzes healing and change. In this process you will discover your capacity to trust again, to have connected, satisfying relationships, to stabilize emotionally, and to care for yourself again.

Let me pour you a cup of coffee or tea, while we sit and talk. Therapy doesn’t have to be scary or daunting. I'm here to support you in coming to understand your struggles & making the changes you want to make in your life, while finding some peace & calm in the process. Life is far too precious & much too short to have grief, loss, trauma, anxiety or conflict take over. We aren't meant to surrender to conflict ridden relationships, or to live a life where past traumas or our grief keep us from truly living. Relationships with our parents, partners, friends, family or coworkers don't have to leave us drained & doubting ourselves.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
