Burnout is real. It impacts our relationships, overall health, work, and ability to parent. In a time of such uncertainty and inflation, the stressors tend to accumulate rather than dissipate. Find yourself at max bandwidth mentally and emotionally? I specialize in relationships, from the one you have with yourself, to those closest to you. My primary focus and niché centers around couples therapy, co-parenting, and divorce support. The facets of relationships change, whether you’re together or apart, my goal is to support couples on their journeys with the best interest of children in mind.

I am on maternity leave and will be returning March 4, 2024 and will be accepting new clients. Hi, my name is Kaitlyn and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with BCACC. Over the past 10 years, I have had the honour of working with teens, adults and seniors struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, self-harm, suicidal ideation, emotion regulation, attachment, relational difficulties and more. I believe emotional and physical safety to be critical components in fostering a trusting and therapeutic relationship throughout sessions. This ensures that the therapeutic journey is reparative rather than re-traumatizing.

Do you find yourself stuck in painful patterns that limit you and your life? Do you struggle in your relationships with your partner, family or others? Do you feel anxiety, depression, or other feelings that impact your enjoyment of life, relationships or career? Life and relationships can feel hard sometimes, and when we are unable to find ways through the most difficult moments, we can be left confused, lost and in pain. We are social beings who desire connection, relationship, and to feel a sense of belonging.

I help teens, adults, couples and families understand and manage the root cause of their anxiety. People often spend a great deal of time trying to find the why. "Why am I so anxious in social settings?" Why does anxiety make my body feel this way?" "Why is my child okay at home but anxious at school?" I believe knowledge is power and having productive solutions and strategies result from asking How. "How do I manage the anxiety?" "How do I get myself to do things that are important to me?" "How do I support someone else with their anxiety?" I show and teach what to do differently.

You deserve to feel good about yourself. Even if that feels completely impossible right now. Even if a mean little gremlin of an inner critic has been telling you otherwise, maybe for your whole life. So many things get in the way when it comes to how we feel about ourselves and our lives - stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, dysfunctional relationships, toxic work environments, isolation, etc. It can feel like a million boulders piling up on top of you until you can't even see which way is up. I've been there and counselling was one of the things that helped me find the light again. The journey is easier with support.

Modern life is very challenging and there are many reasons that might have brought you here looking for counselling. Whether you are dealing with a crisis, at a crossroads, or you just want to heighten your wellbeing, the hardest step can be making the move and reaching out. We can be struggling with the challenges of daily life, big transitions, unmet expectations, difficult relationships, and past trauma. Maybe you struggle with anxiety, people pleasing, having a hard time setting boundaries and saying no. You might be using coping methods that aren’t as effective as they once were.

I am a registered clinical counsellor that specializes in working with children, adolescents, and teens. I have worked as a counsellor in Surrey elementary schools for 5 years. I was also a classroom teacher and substitute teacher for 9 years. I have experience working with teenagers in a group home setting (for 3 years) and have provided group therapy. I am a Registered Psychologist (since 1995) with training and experience in clinical (& forensic) psychology. I provide caring & compassionate therapy using the most effective therapies that are matched to your needs. Psychotherapy involves developing a therapeutic relationship in which you feel at ease, setting goals, and choosing methods to achieve these goals. People tend to overcome or manage issues after they develop understanding of what is amiss, develop motivation (if needed), learn healthy expression of emotion, & learn to examine and confront thoughts while practicing new behaviours.

I am not currently accepting new clients directly. However, my student intern is accepting new clients at a reduced rate of $40+GST per session. Do you feel frustrated, sad, lonely or depressed much of the time? Or, do you feel numb and unable to connect with yourself and your emotions? You are not alone. Many people feel overcome by powerful emotions and struggle to manage them on a daily basis; others, have created a system in which they cut themselves off from their feelings and they experience numbness.

The largest comfort that counselling can bring is space for connection. Connection back to yourself, your relationships and the world around you. Through the counselling partnership you will have the opportunity to explore your strengths, resiliency and have real conversations about the life you want to create. The counselling experience is tailored to your specific needs in efforts to achieve health, balance and happiness. You set the pace at which you feel most comfortable with, whether that's jumping into the deep end right away and tackling the hard stuff or gently wading in the shallow end. It's your journey & your timeline.

More than ever, there seems to be so much to fear in the world. The great thing about fear is that we can change how we look at it. Although that may sound difficult, it's a simple shift in our perspective. If you struggle to make sense of this new world, if anxiety or depression have creeped into your life, I can help. Working together, we can find solutions, fresh perspectives, insight, and the opportunity to create positive change in your life. Sometimes it just helps to talk, and I am here to support you.

Not all Binges are a Choice. The exact cause of BED is unknown, but chemicals in the brain, family history and certain life experiences may play a role in Binge Eating Disorder. BED often begins in the late teens or early 20s. BED affects slightly more women than men. About 40% of those with BED are male. I believe we “know” when our eating behavior is off and that dieting will not resolve the underlying anxiety. There is help, I’ve been there.

I believe in a non-judgemental person centered form of counselling. In particular, I work with children and youth who identify as neurodivergent. Together with parent(s)/and/or caregiver(s) I provide support and care for the daunting challenges that can occur when a person is neurodivergent. I have been working in the school system for over 21 years. I have experience working with children and youth from ages 5-17 as a support teacher and school counsellor. I understand the importance of providing a safe, caring, and secure relationship with all students but particularly with neurodiverse children.

How can I find a therapist in V2W?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
