About

Gena Gorlin, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology in New York City. She is a researcher, educator, and licensed psychologist specializing in the study and therapeutic support of self-creation. Her mission is to inspire and empower individuals to define and become who they want to be. This includes helping them navigate the psychological, social, and practical challenges that self-creation entails.

Gorlin has published numerous academic articles and received grants and awards for her research, which integrates theories and methods from across empirical psychology, moral philosophy, and clinical practice to better understand and promote self-creation. She is particularly interested in what motivates people to think actively and honestly about what they really want in life, even when doing so "runs against the grain" of habit and convention, or is otherwise extremely painful, scary, or hard. Her scholarly work informs and is informed by her experience treating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and related psychological challenges in diverse individuals striving to define their own autonomous personal and/or professional paths.
