I am currently practicing with children, adolescents, adults, parents, and families. I have worked extensively with people of all ages who have experienced trauma/significant stress, and those who live with anxiety, anger, substance abuse, and depression. I also enjoy supporting people who are experiencing life transitions (grief/loss, becoming parents, divorce, job changes, etc.), and those who struggle with perfectionism, shame, and guilt.

Hi! My name is Tanya Martinez-Cardenas. I'm a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor & owner of Unitive Counseling Services (UCS). I am the primary director and counselor at UCS. However, our team consists of recovery coaches, & an EMDR therapist. We specialize in addiction, depression, anxiety, and trauma. We offer Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAP). I am a graduate of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi with a Master of Science in Counseling with an emphasis in Couples, Marriage and Family Therapy. Additionally, I received a Bachelor of Applied Science from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi in Community and Mental Health with a Minor in Psychology and an Associate of Applied Science from Del Mar College in Human Services with an emphasis in Addiction Studies.

Using an Adlerian approach, I want to encourage and empower clients to use their own strengths to attain their goals. I also specialize in sand-tray therapy-which is an effective intervention that helps clients better articulate their past trauma, feelings and emotions, and has been powerful in the healing of depression, grief, addiction, and anxiety in teens and adults. Our counseling center offers an Intensive Outpatient Program for substance abuse, to include individual and group counseling. Finally, I encourage the client to lead their own sessions to heal.
