We all want to be happy, to have a mind and heart at ease. And yet for so many of us, our minds are caught in worry about the future and regrets about the past. We feel stressed and overwhelmed. Our relationships may be fraught with conflict or distant and unsatisfying. And yet happiness is not so far away as it might sometimes seem. I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor with a PhD in psychology and research. I have over 20 years' experience in the field. For some people it may be difficult to talk with a counselor; whether it is their first time, or they have previous experience with therapy. My style is very relaxed, and client friendly. I am experienced in diagnosing mental health disorders, coping strategies, psychological education, and symptom management. I listen to my clients to help them understand their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I identify their unique needs and together we create realistic treatment goals and effective strategies.

I am an experienced trauma informed Wellness Coach, Certified Brainspotting Practitioner, Registered Art Therapist, and Reiki healer. I have 15 years experience working with a variety of ages and populations. My clinical background includes training in DBT, CBT, and ACT. These therapeutic approaches provide practical tools for managing emotions, challenging negative thought patterns, and fostering personal growth.

My primary focus is in ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing. I also weave in Internal Family Systems (IFS) into my work. Susan is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and a Board-Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (BCD), an advanced practice certification embodying the highest standards of clinical education, training, and experience. She obtained her Master’s degree in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach, and holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Northern Arizona University.

I believe that human suffering happens when the way we live our lives falls out of alignment with our internal compass. We are inherently driven to self-actualize and become the best version possible of ourselves; however, the reality is that we live in a very complex world that often steers us away from what we value. We often fall into this trap and begin to chase what society deems valuable, while being convinced that it's our true calling. This behavioral pattern is often piloted by our anxieties and relational trauma, which is what I am most fluent in, as a fellow human first, and a therapist second.

With 30 years of experience treating trauma and grief, I find that Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing provides relief more rapidly than traditional talk therapies. I work with adults in short term individual tele-health treatment. Due to limited availability, appropriate referrals include folks who don't experience interfering problems such as substance abuse, suicidal thinking or a diagnosis of Chronic Complex PTSD.
