Welcome to my Psychology Today profile! My name is Ms. Sarah G. I received my graduate degree, a Master of Science in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. I decided to further my educational journey and return to post-graduate school in 2017. I received the Mental Health credentials and requirements for the LPC/CCTS. I have been in the mental health field for 10-plus years in all capacities: Federal and state level, inpatient, residential, and private practice. I am a warm, caring psychotherapist who has been practicing for over 20 years. I trained psychoanalytically at NYU Graduate School of Social Work, and have helped clients understand themselves and their behaviors so that they can enjoy their lives more fully. Maintaining our mental health requires a holistic approach. One that includes taking care of not only our mind but our body as a whole. That is why I treat my clients using a combination of talk therapy, body-based methods, mindfulness and naturopathic guidance. When healing trauma, simply putting things into words is not sufficient and could in fact be triggering. For this reason, I employ a Somatic Experiencing method to help clients safely access and work through their emotions and traumas stored in their muscle memory, which promotes healing of a wide range of conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, and childhood abuse.

My clients are mostly adult males, 35 - 65 yrs old, struggling with anxiety , internal conflicts and existential issues. Usually they seek my services through the recommendation of a doctor, following a panic attack or a severe anxiety episode that led them to the hospital. Some experience their anxiety as a knot in the throat, problem breathing, racing heart, psychosomatic problems (physical discomfort), intrusive thoughts, sleep disturbance, a disconnect from loved ones. I am trained to assist a person understand what informs their emotional experience, identify their contradictions and connect the dots. Recovery as integration.

I have been working in the field of psychology since 1995 and have vast experience working with clients of all ages and with challenging issues. I believe that the key to successful therapy begins with an empathetic and sincere relationship between the client and therapist. My approach is somewhat eclectic, meaning I tailor my approach to meet the needs of my clients. I employ a biopsychosocial model coupled with psychoeducation, humor and cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal therapy as a foundation. As a former Division I athlete, I am sensitive to the challenges athletes face and also practice sports psychology.
