At some point, we have all felt sad, anxious, lonely, or angry. But, sometimes, we get locked into these emotions, and it begins to feel like our life is out of control. My goal is to help you get back onto the path of living a life that you value. While I am trained in the evidence-based practices of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, my therapeutic approach is collaborative. If you don't feel comfortable, then none of this will work. Our working relationship is so important and something that I highly value.

Many teens today lack the coping skills that are necessary to address life’s ups and downs. They often feel disconnected emotionally, and are unable to handle stress, peer and relationship issues, or the school, college, or work environment. When a teen is struggling with academics, they receive tutoring or support to develop the skills they need to succeed. Emotional health is no different. Teens need tools to help them regulate their emotions, develop connections with others, and create a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle. I take an integrated, solution-focused approach to working with adolescents and young adults.

Taking the first step and seeking help is oftentimes the most difficult decision one must make. Finding the right therapist for you or your family isn't easy. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and that the therapist plays an active role in the treatment. Therefore, finding the right match -someone with whom you have a sense of rapport- is critical. My view of a patient is beyond a set of symptoms. Each client is a unique person who brings his or her particular experiences, strengths, and vulnerabilities.

One person's crisis is another person's opportunity, especially given the unprecedented circumstance we all find ourselves coping with. For many of us prior to this crisis/opportunity we were unable to give attention to our emotional world whether it be due to time, energy, fear and/or self-doubt. Therapy offers an avenue to get to know ourselves in a different way than experienced before. I deeply believe our current crisis can be an opportunity for many of us to be one notch better than before.

We often hear that healing and growth is not linear. Working on ourselves and our relationships is an ongoing process with its ups and downs. Just when we think we're out of the woods, life reminds us of its unpredictability. If life is consistently inconsistent, how can we best adjust, work towards acceptance, and reduce our suffering? Our willingness to work towards self improvement can shift like the wind and when our motivation and energy dwindles, so does our trust in ourselves and those around us. As fear, anxiety, sadness, and even hopelessness settles in, tackling simple tasks seems unattainable.

Sometimes we feel alone, misunderstood, scared. Other times we feel anger, turmoil, overwhelmed. It can be a painful past which still gives us no peace, or a fork in the road ahead which confuses us. We may have no way to settle our fears. Children may be challenging us, or we may be observing them struggle in their personal lives. Relationships may be unsettling or disappointing. What we all want is happiness, inner peace. Gratifying relationships. Pride in our parenting. A way to move on from past traumas and allow us to feel free again.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in New Jersey are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in New Jersey then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in New Jersey, or Child Psychologists in New Jersey.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like New Jersey psychologists specializing in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in New Jersey specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.
