I’ve been in the therapeutic healing world for over 40 years, and I understand a few things: Everyone has the power to heal themselves. Most of our mental/physical/emotional/spiritual disturbances are a result of unresolved grief/trauma. 3. Embracing both Light and Shadow within and without creates a full spectrum for life. 4. A creative process in therapy works for me and my clients. 5. Tears and laughter are both necessary to heal. I have the appropriate credentials for holding space. I am, first and foremost, an artist which provides a different portal for entering the therapeutic alliance. Therapy is a journey.

I offer therapy through compassionate listening, empowering clients as experts in their lives, employing EMDR and Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, grief-support and fostering strength-based growth with empathy and psycho-education.
My ideal therapy client is someone who is engaged in the therapeutic process and also eager to explore personal growth and change. They possess an open-minded attitude and are highly motivated to participate in their own healing and self-improvement journey. The type of client with with who I work best is someone who's experienced trauma or grief and is ready to explore and heal their vulnerabilities. They may also be struggling with anxiety and depression, either individually or within a couple's dynamic, and are seeking support to navigate these challenges and find a path towards emotional well-being and healthier relationships.

Couples and Relationship issues, adolescent issues, coping with stress, anxiety, and depression, recovering from grief and loss, spiritual and faith issues are areas of expertise and focus.
Calling for help can be intimidating. Hopefully I can make your first contact a safe experience. Our initial session is geared to getting to know each other, to hear your story, what prompted you to seek therapy, and talk about your goals. By the end of this session we should have a good idea if we will work well together. If not, I will be happy to give you referrals. Psychotherapy is the intentional process of seeking change, a move towards healing. It is to that end that we can work together to achieve your goals as I offer my experience and training.

Every emotion plays an important role when we learn to stop judging our experience and listen: anger tells us when boundaries have been crossed; shame motivates us to find connection and avoid painful mistakes; sadness helps us to let go, honor loss, and act in line with our values. I help adults of all ages, parents, and couples meet their needs with proven approaches, warmth, and directness. Together, we'll tap into your innate wisdom and find courage, skillfulness, and humor to improve your life and relationships. At the end of the day, we all want to relax, connect, and be present in our lives.

Are you ready for a change? You may be functioning in your life, yet something in you is asking for your attention. Or maybe a recent diagnosis, loss, life transition, or stress may have you questioning how you’ve been living until now. Perhaps you are ready to face something that you’ve resisted in the past out of habit, fear, or a sense of being existentially stuck. Or maybe you know your story, and have a desire to deepen your understanding of yourself but don’t know how to get there.

People who seek me out generally identify with experiencing a history of trauma, grief, attachment wounds, or chronic stress that’s preventing them from living their best lives.
Is anxiety, depression, complex grief, or chronic stress preventing you from feeling present in your life? Have you done a lot of therapy but continue to find yourself feeling stuck, hopeless, or full of dread? Are you struggling with chronic health conditions that don't seem to respond to traditional interventions or can't be explained by conventional medicine? My time as a healing professional has reinforced the awareness that trauma and chronic stress are stored not just in our minds, but in our bodies and nervous systems as well. That is often why talk therapy is just not enough.

Counseling is a challenging avenue to pursue. Usually at moments of confusion, loss, even desperation. Having been in the field for over 20 years, I can admit I don't have 1 answer. However, having that amount of professional (and considerable personal) experience, I've accumulated quite a tool box. It may not guide you to immediate enlightenment, but it will help with the journey. I hope to hear from you.

Waitlist for new clients
I am passionate about family therapy with teens15+ and parents, supporting folks through grief and loss and life transitions, and being an advocate for the queer and gender non-conforming community.
I do my best to approach clients with a balance of empathetic and understanding acceptance, honest directness, and humor - bringing my own humanity into the room - to allow for a feeling of relational ease and transparency. I don't believe that I hold the key to others challenges. However, I do believe that I am skilled at directing others to learn to listen to and trust their own wisdom and ability to work towards a more holistic and fulfilling life, despite difficult circumstances. I see my role as a holder of safe space, and a collaborator with my clients in curating a meaningful, accepting, and empowered relationship with self.

My areas of specialization include LGBTQAI+ affirming care, body focused repetitive behaviors like trichotillomania and excoriation disorder, autism spectrum disorder, intergenerational trauma, anxiety and grief.
I believe that we are relational beings, and the pathway towards healing is through connection. Together, we can explore how our experiences impact the way we show up in our current relationships with both others and ourselves. It is my role to set a compassionate, non-judgmental container that allows for deeply authentic self-expression. From this place, we can illuminate blind spots, examine coping strategies, and begin the work of healing on a nervous system level.

My near death experience as a child provided.
My psychology and counseling practice is the expansion of identities through awareness and compassion not just solving problems. Your journey has been one with twists and turns and taking the first step to contact me may feel uncertain. Given life can feel like a maze, I make our initial contact straightforward as possible. For 25 years I’ve helped people clear the way to the freedom of their true nature in psychotherapy as well as hypnotherapy. I’ve worked as a crisis worker in ERs, to chief auditor for mental health services in Silicon Valley, to developing a successful counseling training center focused on mindfulness

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
