I always enjoy the uniqueness, diversity and complexities of people I’ve met throughout my life. Whether it be military families living with constant moves and deployments, students and their parents dealing with growing pains and battles for independence, couples struggling with their identities as individuals and as a couple; it often all boils down to communications, safe and healthy boundaries, personal empowerment and esteem. My work with you begins with identifying your strengths and goals, your dreams and desires and how to get the life you want and deserve.

Do you always feel on edge? Did something traumatic happen? Trauma is a disruption to the nervous system that often creates patterns and loops that extend into many areas of a person's life. It can affect our bodies, our minds and the way we relate to other people. Sometimes the way people survive their trauma brings them more pain, adds to the chaos, and reinforces negative beliefs that perpetuate the cycle as well as causing other mental health issues grow- such as depression and anxiety. I work with people of various cultures, sexual orientations, and gender identities and know that trauma is non-discriminatory.

Stress, anxiety and depression are common human responses to difficult life events. Current research supports that therapy can help individuals better understand and move through these experiences. In my view there is great potential for healing at any stage in life. I acknowledge that a desire for depth and wholeness is universal - as is the need for meaning. I work mostly with adults, seniors, and family members experiencing adjustment to life changes; including work issues, adult children's struggles, retirement, and loss and grief.

Call me the anti-perfectionist therapist for the 25+ crowd! For the past 15 years, I have worked with many different kinds of people, in many walks of life. But, the main struggles that have always hit home for me have been women who feel like they have to or should be all things to everyone and everything. There is so much heaviness, tension, and angst inside of you when you operate in what I call, "the shoulds". I assist women in releasing perfectionism, stress, and challenging self-defeating narratives. Go ahead and let some of these expectations go, ladies!

I’m comfortable working with clients across the lifespan, but I work best with those who have historically felt misunderstood and unheard, and even those that are distrustful of the therapy process. With that in mind, my goal is to make each client feel special and empowered during and after their time with me. I enjoy talking about “hard things” or even “taboo” things, and encourage my clients to use their time with me in whatever way they need. I don’t believe that progress is linear and I am interested in meeting my client where they are with their goals even if the starting point is simply making an appointment and showing up.

Therapy is an invaluable tool to our well-being— a tool that aims to support individuals through difficult times. I strongly believe our purpose on earth is to grow and evolve as individuals along this journey of life. We are all born with unique personalities into a world that heavily influences the way we perceive love and fear. Our early experiences shape the path we take. It is not easy to separate that which is truly us from what was imposed upon us. The therapeutic process provides space for vulnerability and exploration of our individual life so we can strip away that which does not belong to us.

Life is about relationships-with people, food, money, work, activities, expectations. Relationships can get complicated or even destructive, and support, encouragement and advice can mean a successful transition through difficult times. In our fast moving world, there are many stressors that get in the way of achieving the happiness we desire, resulting in negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I have 20+ years of experience assisting youth, adults, families and couples overcome these struggles. Most clients would describe me as easy-going and friendly, and I am focused on creating a treatment experience that fits you as a unique client.

From these experiences as a child you received and downloaded messages that impact your life now as an adult. Maybe now as an adult you too suffer from an addiction, experience depression and/or anxiety or perhaps you keep finding yourself in co-dependent relationships. You want to break free from feeling lost and/or out of control, you want to be happy and feel secure in yourself and relationships.

Difficulty can show up in our lives in many different ways. You might experience conflict with your partner, struggle to balance work and personal life, have difficulty experiencing joy; have grief over a loved one or are broken-hearted over a divorce or breakup. Or perhaps you are dealing with a medical condition that is making it difficult for you to do the activities you used to do. When we are struggling in these ways anxiety can be excruciating and depression can be debilitating. You don't have to face it alone. I work with individuals and with couples.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer Employee Assistance Plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.

What is an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)?

Employee Assistance Plans are purchased by employers for the benefit of their employees. EAPs typically assist employees with referrals and may also provide the first few sessions of therapy free of charge, with the patient's regular health insurance kicking in after those initial sessions. EAP benefits often apply to all types of therapy without the need for a medical diagnosis, making it easier to access couples therapy, therapy for life transitions, and other non-medical counseling. Just as with standard health insurance, clients should always check that a provider accepts their EAP benefits before scheduling.
