Are you struggling with feeling anxious or overwhelmed? Are you facing challenges and fear in your life? Change is hard and sometimes strong emotions seem to take over. Seeking help can be hard, but is a positive step in the direction of finding healing, hope, and growth. I work with people to help them find purpose and compassion when they feel like the self critical voice has taken over. I enjoy helping people learn to be mindful, remember what brings value to their life, find helpful coping skills, and work through challenging core beliefs.

Ever feel like there must be more to life? Or this isn't how you imagined your life would be? Maybe it's, I've done all of the things why am I not happier, less stressed, less anxious, feeling more accomplished. You are not alone. I have found that we are more alike than we think, capable of more than we try, and more courageous than we know. We just have to get through the noise in our head.

We all claim to desire deeper intimacy and to "communicate better" with our partner, the reality is that we are all scared of what that intimacy may entail, at least on some level. The fear is that if we allow ourselves to be vulnerable with our partner, we may be swallowed whole, cave around our personal boundaries and choices, or experience the kind of hardship or betrayal we felt as children. Having a strong self is in fact the precondition for a deep intimacy and the "we" that you may so desperately want or wish you had back. Thus, learning to tolerate your differences is the key to satisfying relationships.

Everyone needs assistance and guidance from time to time. I have spent the majority of my career in mental health working with the homeless population, youth, teens and individuals with severe mental health concerns. I have helped individuals to navigate a variety of issues. I am comfortable working with individuals who are on the Autism Spectrum, the LGBTQ+ population, navigating trauma related issues, anxiety, depression, and management of interpersonal relationships. I believe people should be allowed to grow and progress from whatever type of issues they are struggling with while being treating with compassion, respect and care.

A person is a person, no matter how small.- Dr. Seuss Speaking your truth is difficult when your first language is play, or you find it difficult to share your thoughts because of anxiety or depression. Children struggle with a myriad of concerns in our technologically-driven age, whereby, their first impressions stem from influences seen on television, social media, and experiences from within their home or school environments. Moreover, adjusting to life-changing events is hard for children who need to feel supported on their journey through life.

Welcome! I am currently accepting new patients for therapy and testing. Testing can be a wonderful starting point for treatment, as it can help clarify diagnoses and pinpoint treatment goals for the purpose of psychotherapy. If you’re not quite sure where to start with treatment, testing may be a good option.

There are many reasons someone may be seeking counseling whether it be for the first time, or deciding to restart therapy. You may not be feeling like your usual self lately; lacking motivation, having trouble making decisions, sleeping too much or having trouble falling asleep, or feeling “stuck” in life. Do you just feel "off?" Parents of teens, are you feeling like things are out of control? Maybe your teen is participating in risky behaviors isolating themselves, struggling academically, constantly fighting with you, & won’t open up about anything. You’re worried about the changes you see & feel it’s time to seek outside help.

Does this sound like you? No matter how hard you try, negative thoughts fill your head, swimming around, taking over your day. You try so hard, but everything you do feels wrong, imperfect, and uncomfortable. Sometimes you may feel full of energy and then crash or become tearful and sad or angry and irritable. Sometimes you may have nightmares or flashbacks or lose time just sitting and thinking. Perhaps you have felt this way and gone through the same behavior patterns your whole life. Or maybe, these feelings are brand new, and you have never felt this way before. For whatever reason, you are seeking help and I am glad you are.

Insight. Balance. Growth. These 3 elements are what I have found people are seeking when forming a working relationship with a professional psychologist. A balanced therapeutic perspective, someone who listens with insight, and a plan created WITH the client for sustained personal and/or professional growth - this is what I offer in my work with clients. It's an approach that has been successful with clients for over 3 decades. My clients describe me as warm, genuine, caring, and the process of change as enjoyable even though at times life circumstances can be difficult.

On this journey of life it's a possibility that you've experienced a gamut of emotions. It's only human to cry when you are sad or express excitement when hearing good news. There are also situations that may feel overwhelming, uncomfortable or like uncharted territory. During these trying times additional assistance is often warranted in order to feel a sense of well-being.

The human experience exposes us to many stressors, traumas, and anxieties. Recognizing and seeking help to overcome these is the first step in one’s therapeutic journey. While this process can be overwhelming, and uncomfortable, identifying the right person to help you overcome these emotions is a very critical part of your journey. You should know that I value providing a non-judgmental space that will allow you to explore your emotions and together engage in a journey that will allow you to start being the best version of yourself.

Overwhelmed, confused, indecisive, worried? Yes! Has anyone told you you're an overachiever/perfectionist? It often feels like a strength, a way to accomplish, be rewarded, and avoid criticism. But it also creates unnecessary stress and anxiety. Am I right? You feel stressed and don’t even know where to begin to juggle everything in your life. You find yourself feeling like it is never enough. You question yourself if you are making the right decisions for your life. You don’t want to let people down. Most importantly you don’t want to let yourself down. You have goals you want to achieve and feeling this way needs to stop.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Dallas?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
