I work with a variety of clients and issues but have found a great deal of success working with individuals struggling with anxiety and depression. I also work with individuals grappling with loss, and individuals dealing with trauma. Therapy can be hard work, for sure, but it can also be a fully edifying experience.

Do you feel responsible for taking care of everyone else, but have little time or energy left to care for yourself? Is it hard to even identify what you need, much less ask for it? Did you grow up in chaos and now have some healing to do? Do you struggle with perfectionism, anxiety, control, or taking on too much? You are not alone and you don't have to deal with it alone. I specialize in helping teens and adults who struggle with setting boundaries, speaking up, coping with anxiety/panic, nightmares, dissociation, angry outbursts, and the need to always feel in control.

My professional interests are focused on depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, relationships issues, gender identification/expression, and women's issues. I seek to help people develop awareness of the impact of trauma, loss, attachment and abuse on their development, and the resulting negative and harmful beliefs; to create and practice adaptive and healing skills; and to find personal empowerment through the therapeutic experience.

We are living in unprecedented times. If you are sensitive to, and feel the pain of being alive during such uncertain times on this planet—you are not alone. There are many layers to who we are and many reasons we struggle to connect to ourselves, to others, and to the world. In therapy, we'll start to map your inner landscape, locate what feels chaotic, and contact what feels true for you. I specialize in working with complex trauma, grief, spirituality, anxiety, depression, isolation, shame, burnout, chronic illness, and relationship issues. I’m devoted to helping you remember your inherent worth, intelligence, and aliveness

Wholeness leads to healing. I guide my clients to accept all parts of themselves and find balance in their lives. I entered the field of counseling with a passion for treating trauma (big T and little t trauma). Along the way I gathered some exceptional tools for doing so, including EMDR and a somatic approach to psychotherapy. Not so far removed from trauma, I have also developed a specialty in treating addiction of all kinds. I have seen the power of emotional healing to transform people's lives in ways they always wanted but didn't know how. I am here to help whenever the client is ready to do that brave and powerful work.

As a neurodivergent person with 7 years in the field, I offer unconditional support on your journey to unpack and process your own traits, trauma, and emotional struggles, set and uphold boundaries around your needs, manage your nervous system, understand how your brain and body are working, identify your parts and work with them, build self-worth and self-efficacy, and have more confidence in walking the path YOU want, rather than one expected of you by others. LGBTQIA+ allied. Parenting/grief/direct care-friendly. Meeka, Canine Queen of Therapy, often walks with us.

I connect easily with clients to feel lighter and clearer in their minds, body, and Spirit. I work with people with stressful careers in medicine, law, finance, and small businesses. Knowing the necessity of keeping a clear head and calm body, yet have been struggling with heartbreak, anxiety, fears, loss and grief that has created overwhelming stress and expectations that limits functioning. It is a challenging balancing act with career, family, relationships, along with finding some quiet time to relax. I help you master these challenges with a very confidential, (no insurance or electronic records) safe, and caring environment.

Are you struggling with chronic stress, upsetting memories, episodes of anger, panic, irritability? Are you feeling depressed or numb? Difficult life experiences cause the nervous system to make you feel this way, whether those experiences occurred recently or in the distant past. The body remembers and contains difficult experiences even when the mind doesn't. At some point the body can no longer contain the memories, and they pour out of us in the form of stress, anger, depression, numbness, or panic. Take advantage of one of the most effective post-traumatic stress treatments used world-wide today - the Trauma Resiliency Model.

My goal is to meet my clients in the moment they are in, and invite them into a deeply safe experience of expanded possibility and curiosity. Connected more deeply to themselves, crucial feelings, fundamental beliefs and significant memories can emerge and be held with respect and kindness. Important individual and relational needs and healing can then be discovered, recognized, and realized.

I encourage my clients to identify and express their feelings and to more fully understand their personal frames of reference. I often use a practical approach, focusing on the development of short and long-term goals, looking at what has and hasn't worked in the past and examining the potential consequences of various courses of action and points of view. I also guide consideration of how the past continues to affect the present. I use a wide range of therapeutic activities to facilitate the therapeutic relationship and process. My goal is to help you reach yours. I hope you'll give me that opportunity.

My passion is working with people who struggle with body image, depression, and anxiety or are stuck reliving or repeating generational behaviors and patterns. I focus on those who identify as LGBTQ+ and those in non-traditional relationship structures. Utilizing person-centered strengths based ACT, CBT, parts work, mindfulness, and expressive arts therapies I work with folks to help them in times of change to break the cycles of intergenerational trauma and support people in their own growth.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Marshall?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
